Whenever
Saturn is activated in this way, we can expect a reality check, where
we come face to face with the truth of a situation. When Pluto is
energized, great power is unleashed, forcing change. And, when Eris adds
its influence, we experience resistance and perhaps anger.
In
many respects, this Lunar Eclipse is the younger sister of the Lunar
Eclipse set for January 2020. At that time, the Sun will align with not
only Saturn and Pluto, but also Mercury and Ceres—and
all of these planets will be square Eris. Because of this link between
the two eclipses, we must observe current events within a larger
context; they are part of a process that will continue to unfold over
the next six months, which will either culminate or reach a crisis point
in early 2020.
IF YOU'VE ATTENDED one
of my webinars this year, you know that I'm viewing 2019 and 2020 as a
two-year process. That is based in part on the high-pressure
Saturn-Pluto alignment, which was very strong in April, is being
triggered by this week's eclipse, will
build in effect again starting in October, and then peak in January
2020. From there, we have other significant and related alignments that
carry us through the end of 2020.
It
can be helpful to know that we're in the midst of a longer-term
evolutionary phase, that what we're experiencing now is not the end of
the story. At Matt Kahn's most
recent talk in Seattle, he spoke of ascension, and explained that it's
really a process of "transmutation,
brought about by heat and pressure." Hearing those words, I immediately
thought of Pluto (heat) and Saturn (pressure). Certainly, we are under a
lot of pressure right now, and feeling the heat. It makes sense that
the planets would be closely involved in the major shift we sense is
occurring on our planet.
THIS WEEK'S ECLIPSE perfects at 2:38 p.m. PDT on Tuesday, July 16 (9:38 p.m. GMT). It occurs when the Moon is at 24°04′ Capricorn, and the Sun is at the same degree of Cancer. Contained in the eclipse chart is a tight opposition between Venus and Saturn, a close alignment
between Venus and the North Node, and a wider opposition between Venus and Pluto.
Any
time we see Venus mentioned astrologically, we can expect to see
effects in one or more of the areas that Venus "rules": our values, our
relationships, and our finances. In essence, Venus represents all those
things we open our human hearts to, that we may even say we love—whether it's another person or our favorite pair of shoes.
TAKING THESE ASPECTS one
at a time, a Venus-Saturn opposition indicates a reality check in these
Venus-ruled areas of life. We are able to be a bit more detached than
usual. This neutrality—which may look like aloofness to others—allows
us to see the truth of a relationship, or realize we've overspent and
need to be more cautious, or perhaps we admit that it's time to give
away a certain pair of shoes because we haven't worn them in years, even
if they still have sentimental value.
In
comparison, the Venus-Pluto opposition is far from objective. It
awakens passions and reveals deeper needs, emotions, and attachments. We
tend to react viscerally, instinctively, to issues that arise. Power
struggles, jealousies, and secrets may surface. Some may try to
manipulate situations in their efforts to maintain control.
THE ALIGNMENT between
Venus and the North Node in Cancer gives us strong clues as to how to
manage this complex combination of influences. The North Node shows the
path of humanity's highest evolution, and the qualities we are being
asked to
develop.
Cancer is the sign of the Empath, the Nurturer, the Sensitive. And yet, Cancer the Crab needs its shell—representing strong boundaries—in
order to survive in the world. The North Node in Cancer tells us that
humanity's growth depends on our ability to be more openhearted, more
emotionally generous, more trusting in the guidance of our intuitive
knowing. But, at the same time, we must also know our boundaries and our
internal strength, so that we don't dissolve into a helpless and
hopeless emotional heap when viewing the problems in the world.
The world needs our hearts, but it also needs our strength--and our light.

IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK: This
year is a time of powerful transition in your life. You are tapping
into your deeper motivations, and learning to speak and live your truth
even more fully. You are releasing old elements of the past, as well as
old emotional patterns. This purging process will free you to find a new
sense of personal
purpose in your life. You may feel exceptionally vulnerable as you go
through these changes; this teaches you the importance of self-care, and
that you must allow others to support you. (Solar Return Sun conjunct Mercury, conjunct Venus, opposite Saturn, opposite Pluto, trine Neptune)
