I've always been interested in consciousness, and I am struggling to make lifestyle changes, so I have played around with auditory tools for reprogramming the brain out of ingrained habits and towards more supportive patterns of behavior. I have stretched and moved a bit more than I got used to during the pandemic and lockdown, and that always helps. I am trying to notice the connection between what I eat and how I feel. This past week or so I have been able to sleep more: longer hours, deeper sleep, vivid dreams, waking feeling rested for a change. Normally I am sleep-deprived much of the time, and consequently not functioning optimally. But I had no idea what this really meant. I have no trouble falling asleep, as I am usually exhausted when I finally go to bed, but will wake after the first sleep cycle of 4 or 5 hours, and have trouble going back to sleep. Or if I am not moving or stretching enough, it is my body that may object to sleep positions. On Sunday, I came across this discussion and found it fascinating, as specific issues and options are explained in detail for how to gain control of the autonomic system and kick in the parasympathetic nervous system to reprogram and focus the brain. I also see that my family dynamic has affected my experience of pleasure/reward and how I came to be the way I am, as well as what direction I wish to move in next in life. The interview is lengthy, but a worthwhile investment of time. I've listened to it twice! ~PB
