Only In Boston

I had some inspiring massage clients in recent months, who are running today in the Boston Marathon. One in particular stands out. She is a very young Marathon Bombing Survivor, maybe in her late teens or early 20's. She is a bright, friendly, remarkable young woman who was standing with her boyfriend somewhere behind Jeff Bauman. Like many, she suffered hearing lost, her boyfriend severe injury to his foot and leg, which nearly had to be amputated. However, in recent years, they have both trained and run the Marathon along with other survivors. A few days before the race, she said she was feeling a mix of excitement and anxiety. Many Survivors still struggle with their injuries, some not so apparent. Those who still suffer from PTSD, anxiety and stress often are misunderstood when simple things trigger fear. A forgotten backpack in a public place, a loud noise, being in crowds, sirens.


We don't know why some suffer so acutely, while others take on the challenge and triumph of running. All we know is that Patriot's Day (a state holiday today, day of  the Marathon) has traditionally been one of the most joyful occasions ever, not only in Boston, but celebrated around the world. We support and applaud all the runners and Survivors in reclaiming this joyous, historic day. #BostonStrong

Steven Tyler, Joe Perry Perform Moving Boston Marathon Tribute (Video)

Two Boston legends put their own take on “Boston Strong” last week.
Steven Tyler, front man of the famous Boston-based band Aerosmith, teamed up with bandmate Joe Perry and a local children’s choir to perform a moving rendition of “Dream On” as part of an ESPN “E:60″ tribute to the victims and survivors of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.

The video honors Martin Richard, Lu Lingzi, Krystle Campbell and Sean Collier, who lost their lives in connection with the marathon attack, as well as the many victims and first responders who were affected in the bombing. It also looks forward to this year’s marathon, where a record turnout is expected when the race gets underway Monday morning.
