OUR CHOICE of perspective is key now -- do we see the glass as being half full or half empty? As we start the new week, challenging Chiron aspects mean that we may be nursing a bruised ego or other hurt feelings. But Chiron, the Wounded Healer, reminds us that within any situation of wounding are also the seeds of healing.
In other words, this is an opportunity to make a new choice. Our first step is to acknowledge our need for attention and love, and to have compassion for the small-child aspect of our personality that is needful in that regard. This helps us begin to truly heal instead of looking for someone or something outside ourselves to fill the emptiness.
After we take this first step -- in essence, putting on our own oxygen mask before doing anything else -- we can then open our hearts in greater understanding and caring for other people and the situation itself. This process brings about two dividends: we not only heal wounds, we also deepen our faith that all is in divine order.
WE FEEL A SHIFT in the energies on Tuesday, as Mars changes signs and the New Moon initiates a new lunar cycle.
Due to its retrograde phase, Mars has been in tenacious Scorpio for a total of about four months, divided into two stages -- from January 3 to March 5, and again from May 27 to August 2. During this time, strong feelings have been brewing, sometimes just beneath the surface but oftentimes expressed outwardly and vehemently (or violently). Our emotional reactivity has been increased, as well as the potential for disagreements to quickly turn into power struggles.
WITH MARS now entering optimistic Sagittarius, we can start to feel more hopeful about where we're going and how we will feel once we get there. Mars in Sag supports our stepping out on new adventures, motivated by our highest ideals or our dedication to a cause. Accordingly, it can also increase our dissatisfaction with restraints, since we want to feel the freedom to move and explore.
Sag also rules belief systems and religions, and Mars is the god of war -- so it's entirely possible that we will see an increase in philosophical arguments, with dogmatism and bigotry showing their ugly faces once again. The question for everyone becomes one of how to choose the high ground -- succinctly described recently by Michelle Obama when she said, "When they go low, we go high."
OUR NEW MOON on Tuesday occurs in the dramatic sign of Leo at 1:44pm PDT (8:44pm GMT). This lunation sets the stage for those who want to joyfully express their essence in creative ways, and also for those who want to shine and be in the limelight.
The Sabian symbol for the eleventh degree of Leo reads: "Children on a swing in a huge oak tree." We can see the potential for both sides of the Leo coin in this image. On one side, we see the child who is lost in the moment, thrilling to the excitement and laughing with the joy of the ride; on the other side, we see the show-off who loudly proclaims, "Watch me! I can go higher than anybody else!"
THE SUN AND MOON are in positive trine aspect with Saturn at this New Moon, supporting slow but steady progress toward the achievement of personal goals and higher aspirations. However, the New Moon is also in an uncomfortable quincunx aspect with Neptune, requiring that we let go of our of ego's attachment to a specified course of action -- or the timing of that action -- before we can see the most progress.
Saturn would agree with that advice. The Ringed Planet is still retrograde, but moving very slowly as it gets ready to change direction. Some projects and goals may feel stalled right now, or moving just as slowly as Saturn. After Saturn goes direct on August 13, and then starts to build momentum in a forward direction, we are more supported in creating the tangible structures needed for achieving our ideals.
MERCURY ACTIVATES the energies of the ongoing Saturn-Neptune square next weekend. Since we're dealing with Mercury, issues that arise will involve communications, travel, networks, and all forms of information sharing.
This is another choice point, an opportunity for us to decide whether we want to play the game of duality, or if we will choose a more enlightened path. When we perceive the polarities of positive and negative, we can choose neutrality. When we are aware of how both order and chaos exist simultaneously, we open ourselves to experiences of synchronicity.
IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK: This year contains the possibility of steady progress in the direction of your ideals and personal fulfillment. However, you are also learning to release the need for constant reassurance, replacing that need with a greater trust in the higher plan for the situation. There will also be times when you will want to stand strong when making choices. The challenge will be one of self-awareness – knowing when you are tempted to make decisions out of fear and when you are operating from a more enlightened and empowered place within you.
In peace,
Pam
