THE TENSION
of these times is palpable, and for good reason! We're juggling some potent planetary energies that are challenging us on many levels.

Although the final exact Pluto-Uranus square occurred last March, the two planets are again within "orb" (in range of having effect), and will be working with us through the end of February. (For those who are interested, I'm using a two-degree orb.) If you recall, this Pluto-Uranus square is the energy behind many of the major changes that have occurred since the square starting having effect in late 2011-early 2012.

TO CALL THIS Pluto-Uranus square "transformational" is almost too restrictive. Each of these planets by itself is very powerful -- and when they interact with each other, they create an energy field that can manifest as radical and sudden shifts in our personal lives, as situations that require us to embrace the process of death and rebirth, as extreme experiences and power struggles that require us to go deeply into our knowing of ourselves, and as illuminations that open us to greater awareness.

As a group and as individuals, we are finally completing a process of empowerment (Pluto) and liberation (Uranus) that began back in 2011-2012. We are in the shallow end of the pool, making our way to dry land. We are no longer completely immersed in the water, but our feet will still be wet for a while longer.

OUR AWARENESS of the lingering effects of the Pluto-Uranus square should increase next weekend, when Mercury conjoins Pluto on Saturday and then squares Uranus on Sunday. We'll be aware of strong urges that drive us to make important changes in our lives.

We may finally make a major decision or choose to speak our truth more forcefully than before (Mercury-Pluto). We may also be challenged to open our minds and our consciousness to new ideas that free us from the past and alter our plans for the future (Mercury-Uranus).

IN PREPARATION for next weekend's shift, we'll be reassessing our beliefs and seeing how they fare when faced with the practical realities of life (Sun in Sagittarius square Jupiter and square the North Node). We'll want to ask ourselves:

Is there some way in which my long-held beliefs and biases are interfering with my ability to create solutions to existing problems? How can I open my mind, let go of needing to be "right," and receive the intuitive information that will be most helpful now?

WE'LL ALSO WANT to be honest with ourselves and with others about our true needs. Are we giving ourselves the freedom and acceptance we need to follow our own path, or have we abdicated in some way to the opinions and needs of others?

This level of honesty requires that we trust in our self-knowing. It also means that once we know our truth, we must trust that the universe will support us, whether or not other people can easily do so. (Venus in Scorpio square Ceres, sextile Pluto, quincunx Uranus, and trine Chiron)

A FINAL NOTE about next weekend -- in addition to the influence we've already discussed, we'll also be working with the effects of a Mars-Neptune sesquiquadrate. This aspect can manifest in heightened reactions and lack of self-restraint. Because of this, it's important to be very clear before we take any action, even if we feel very certain about our choices and strongly drawn in a certain direction.

Remember that any time Neptune is involved in a hard aspect, we may over-idealize a situation. It may be best, if needing to make important decisions, to wait until after the Solstice next Monday (8:49pm PST on December 21), when the Sun moves into practical, earthy Capricorn.
