A DELUGE of words and opinions clogs the air and our minds this week. Tuesday's Mercury-Jupiter alignment in Libra increases verbosity and indicates that many will be saying what they believe will please or placate. The need to maintain appearances can be a greater motivation than the desire to be completely forthright.
As we watch Mercury move through the rest of the week, we can follow the trail of how that excess of words affects us over time.
On Wednesday, a Mercury-Neptune aspect indicates that promises being made are not necessarily grounded in reality. We'll want to pay close attention to where we're intuitively sensing that something's "not quite right," and adjust our decisions accordingly.
A Mercury-Mars square on Thursday builds the tension and the rhetoric, as tempers flare and we tend to speak impulsively, not being aware of the repercussions of our words. There may be a slight stabilization on Friday, courtesy of a helpful Mercury-Saturn aspect, but it's just a momentary calm before the storm.
SATURDAY marks the crest of the week's energies, reflected by the planets through a contentious Mercury-Pluto square and a rebellious Full Moon in Aries.
When Mercury and Pluto form an aspect of conflict, as they do on Saturday, the urge to get to the heart of a matter is all-encompassing. We can be very insightful, but more in a suspicious way, as we're digging for truths that have been hidden. We want honesty, and will settle for nothing less.
Overall, there's a tendency to use words to manipulate, as everyone tries to take control of the situation and get others to see things from their point of view. This anger and argument is likely to increase over the weekend and into next week, as Mars moves into alignment with Pluto (exact on Wednesday, October 19). With this alignment, actions may be taken that transform the landscape. On an individual level, we can choose to use this influence in positive ways, to focus our intention and energy in an area of our lives that is in need of purging and deep cleansing.
THE FULL MOON on Saturday occurs at 9:23pm PDT (4:23am GMT on Sunday). It is a "supermoon," which means it occurs when the Moon is at its closest approach to the Earth. This closer proximity is said to increase the effect of the lunation: In the physical world, we can see an amplification in extreme weather and other events of nature within a week before and a week after a supermoon. A supermoon can also increase emotional reactivity and general instability.
What makes this Full Moon the most potent, however, is that it occurs within one degree of Uranus and the dwarf planet Eris.
URANUS is known as the "Great Awakener," and is a primary force in the expansion of consciousness on the planet. Like an earthquake, Uranus shakes our foundations, but with the purpose of liberating us from the restrictions and limitations of existing patterns, mindsets, and social structures.
Eris, a dwarf planet discovered in 2005, is said to represent a powerful feminine energy that is growing in our awareness, that is now ready to take root in our lives. Eris is far from meek, more like a protective mother bear than a clucking hen sitting on her nest. Her namesake is the Greek Goddess of Discord, so she does not shy away from the battle.
However, Eris is a transpersonal planet, which means she does not want to be trivialized and be seen only for the external changes she may bring about. Her ultimate goal, as with it is for the other outermost planets, is to help us evolve to become beings of higher consciousness and higher vibration.
URANUS AND ERIS have been traveling closely together in Aries since spring. The intention of these two planets is to be agents of radical change that move us forward on our evolutionary path. On a human consciousness level, their shared journey has supported the "I'm mad as H*** and not going to take it any more!" attitude that some have claimed for their banner.
Saturday's Full Moon shines a strong light on the efforts of Uranus and Eris to shake us free from the past and help us move forward, even if we have to deal with what feels like chaos along the way. But it is, in fact, that very chaos that challenges and en-COURAGES us to seek new solutions and enact them.
THE SABIAN SYMBOL for the Full Moon tells us that it is time to open ourselves to receive the abundant energies that are offered in support of our ongoing spiritual journey:
"Blown inward by the wind, the curtains of an open window take the shape of a cornucopia: Openness to the influx of spiritual energies."
Astrologer Dane Rudhyar offers this interpretation of this symbolic image:
"The wind (pneuma, spirit) blows through the open mind-window and brings into the house of personality a promise of more-than-material potency. Wind blows from a region of high pressure to one of low pressure. As the window curtains are blown inward, the individual consciousness represented by the house is receiving a more concentrated influx of spiritual energies, enabling this consciousness to extend the scope of its awareness and creative expression.
"Inner growth demands not just an open mind but one able to provide a container for a spiritual harvest. The cornucopian shape of the window's curtains suggests that the subtler translucent aspect of the mind (the curtains) has acquired a plastic quality, enabling it to be molded by transpersonal forces."
A potentially life-changing week lies ahead -- may the wind that blows through our windows gently carry each of us to new spiritual and creative heights.
IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK: This is a year of liberation. You will be feeling especially restless and unwilling to put up with situations and relationships that are not in alignment with your authentic Self. Remember that your thoughts and words are powerful forces in and of themselves, so do your best to focus your intentions in positive ways. If you do, you can accomplish much and learn important truths that will guide your life for years to come.
In peace,
Pam
