WE BEGIN the new week with the First Quarter Moon on Monday (11:39am PDT, 6:39pm GMT). This phase in the lunar cycle is a checkpoint, when we observe and assess our progress since the New Moon one week ago.

With the Moon in Cancer for this event, it is appropriate to ask ourselves if the direction we're taking is truly supporting us emotionally. Conversely, we also want to make sure that our attachment to the past is not interfering with our ability to courageously move into the future.

THERE'S A SERIOUS TONE this week, due to realistic Saturn moving very slowly now. The planet known as the Lesson-Bringer comes to a standstill and begins its four-month retrograde (backward motion) phase on Wednesday.

Under Saturn's influence, we tend to be more aware of the responsibilities of life. It can feel like there's a lot of work to be done, and not much time for play. But the work can be satisfying, if the goals we are reaching toward are aligned with what we know will enhance the greater meaning of our lives.

SATURN calls us to be objective and clear about what and what doesn't work for us. This means many people may be at a choice point this week. With retrograde Venus moving into a challenging square aspect with Saturn on Saturday, these decisions will likely involve relationships, financial affairs, or other ways that our values manifest in physical form.

This is the second of three exact Venus-Saturn squares (the first was on January 27, and the last will be on April 21), so whatever issues we are working on have probably been in our awareness for several weeks. The entire month of April appears to be set up for us to consciously and wisely consider all facets of the choices we are making; both Venus and Saturn are moving very slowly, so the effects of their square aspect will actually be with us for most of April.

WE MAY NEED to adjust our trajectory when Mars is quincunx Jupiter on Tuesday. Jupiter in Libra extols the virtues of equal and fair exchange, but Mars in Taurus can have strong opinions about what it wants and the best way to achieve it.

This can lead to complications if we're trying to make progress on a project, especially if other people are involved in our endeavors. Consensus is not easily reached. Hopefully all will be resolved by Wednesday, when a Mars-Pluto trine provides the courage and the determination needed for accomplishing whatever we decide to do.

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY are our hot spots for the week, with the Sun activating the Jupiter-Pluto square. Excesses, exaggerations, and power plays are part of this scenario, so we will need to do our best to keep a cool head while others about us seem to be losing theirs.

This influence will also be part of next Monday's Full Moon, when the Moon aligns with Jupiter. Watch for situations that develop on Friday and Saturday to extend into early next week as well.

MERCURY goes retrograde at 4:14pm PDT next Sunday (11:14pm GMT). This marks the beginning of a very exciting but even more unpredictable-than-usual Mercury retro phase -- the Messenger Planet will end up being within 2 degrees of Uranus for the last week of April and the first two weeks of May.

What can we expect? In the positive, inventive and original ideas, expansion of consciousness, breakthroughs, and new scientific developments. On the more challenging side of the coin, we can anticipate unexpected, sudden changes as well as scattered thinking, nervousness, breakdowns, and technological or communication glitches.

In other words, this week would be a great time to back up your computer, before this influence starts to take effect!

EMAIL DELAYS: I'm in the process of changing email servers this week, and am anticipating that there may be a day or two when I'm not able to access my inbox. So, if you write me and I don't respond as quickly as usual, you'll know why! Please allow a couple of days for my reply -- hopefully I'll be over all the technological hurdles quickly. Thanks for your patience!

IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK: This powerful year asks you to find a new balance in your relationships; it no longer works to seesaw between independence and accommodation. Your opportunity is to explore what brings you joy and how joining with others can enhance your life experience. You are also compelled to understand yourself on deeper levels, perhaps acknowledging and releasing old patterns of defensiveness that have caused difficulties over the years. A good counselor, shaman, or other mentor may be helpful as you go through this cleansing process.

Yours in peace,

Pam
