"Greetings everyone! It is a great pleasure coming through this
channel for the first time, although I am not a stranger to the work
that is being done here. I am delighted for the chance to speak with
all of you. Mother God let us know that we would have a special
opportunity to come through, since Kathryn has agreed to do a message
every day until the Revaluation of Currencies. I suppose you are aware
that the purpose behind these messages is to provide a challenging
lesson for you every day, one which will help you to clear away an old
remnant of darkness and replace it with Light. I am happy to be a part
of such an uplifting project.
We are all interested in the path of humankind toward their
Ascension. We watch carefully as the dance is acted out - the thrust
and parry between the Light and Dark on your planet. Of course the deck
is stacked in favor of the Light, since the appearance of darkness (and
what you sometimes call evil) is really just an illusion. Are you
really in full understanding of how that is possible? Perhaps I can
give you another perspective on it.
Let us take the example of the minions of dark ones who are now
carrying out the terrible assassination plots against the bankers who
have worked for the largest of the corrupt financial institutions. Of
course these 38 and counting bankers whose deaths have been counted as
"suicides" are nothing of the kind. Not one of them had any psychiatric
problems, they were all successful and highly paid, and had absolutely
no motive for suicide, unless you consider the possibility that they all
suddenly had a fit of conscience and could not live with their own
participation with the cabal systems. That is highly unlikely, since
the kind of high life they were all living generally becomes addictive
and difficult to leave - all the more likely that it was not suicide.
Most of the deaths were people who worked in the area of IT or
communications in their banking companies. They therefore are the ones
at high levels of responsibility who had access to the information about
the fraud being committed every day. Is it not obvious to you that
these would be the ones who need to be eliminated, just as the Treasury
Department comes searching around looking for evidence of the extreme
and unethical practices they know are epidemic in recent years? These
are the men (they are all men) who have the evidence needed to shut down
all the major banking corporations on the globe.
Now, why do I, Hilarion, who is usually concerned with the natural
world, bring up this issue right now? Because I am also interested in
the new governance coming to the Earth which will allow many of you to
be free to support your Mother Earth and the precious Kingdoms of
Elementals, Animals and Plants which have suffered along with you for so
many years.
Do you see the fundamental connection between the kind of greed that
drives a cabal leader and the ongoing devastation of the natural world?
Of course you do. Where there is a connection between power and money
there is greed, and where there is greed there is corruption, and where
there is corruption one of the first things to go is any concern for
protections for Mother Earth's health and well-being.
This is why we who are the protectors and healers of the non-human
Kingdoms are so involved right now with our Galactic Brothers and
Sisters who come to work with us on removing toxins and nuclear waste
from the environment. We are watching hopefully as the humans who were
trained - brainwashed, really - by the Reptilian-controlled cabal, to
see how they will carry forward now that their leaders are gone from the
planet. We continue to hope that in spite of the ruthless programs
under which they were trained, they will gradually find their hearts and
begin to question the use of murder, blackmail, extortion and threats
when they deal with the threat to their power base, which is dwindling.
As the energies of Light on the planet increase, the pressure is on
for everyone, even those who have prided themselves in being completely
immune to feelings of compassion or generosity, which they consider
weakness. As they go through their days priding themselves in being
callous, others around them are beginning to soften, awaken, and
question whether they wish to continue on the path they were seduced
into when they were young.
There are developing schisms between the most powerful leaders, who
formed the tight-knit family connections by calculated marriage and
business arrangements, not out of Love for one another, but because of
the power they could accrue by creating tightly-controlled secret
organizations. There are cracks forming in the foundations of their
structures, as younger family members begin to defect in opposition to
the status quo. Just as in the natural world, it is the young who are
the promise of the future for their parents, and the Universal Laws
which govern all are beginning to be felt, especially by those who still
have a glimmer of connection to Creator.
A few have "slipped through the cracks" by pretending to be
interested in the dark religious practices they were raised in, while
secretly exploring the internet sites which have proliferated like this
one, offering a different view of what Life can be. You see, Light will
out, always. Once one begins to question and absorb these lessons,
there is no turning back. Have you not noticed this? The more of these
messages you read, the more it all begins to fall into place, to form a
larger understanding of the Universe than you ever dreamed of a few
years ago.
Now, let me sketch the rest of the picture for you. The
military-industrial complex is owned and operated by the same people who
control the financial institutions. The military-industrial complex is
the source of the worst toxins and invasive practices which harm the
beautiful beings who have always lived in peace with humans, doing their
service of nurturing and protecting the natural world. So you see, the
war between the banksters and their minions is going to soon spread to
the military leaders and their officers and troops.
The U.S. Navy has resumed their irresponsible testing of sonar
technology, even after the people's letter-writing campaign which
brought a halt to the testing and a supposed "rethinking" of destructive
practices. When the cetaceans begin leaving in large numbers because
they cannot stand the pain and hostilities toward them, it will create
an even greater outcry from the people, and it will become difficult for
even the previously hard-nosed bureaucrats to maintain their
indifference.
Whales, dolphins and even merpeople are considering a mass exodus
from the planet at this time. The attacks on them will no longer be
able to be kept secret when they begin washing up on beaches. It is
difficult to hide or quickly dispose of a dead whale, and there are
activists everywhere watching the beaches and creating protests around
the world to protect their Brothers and Sisters of the oceans.
So you see, Beloved Ones, everything hinges on all of you raising
your vibration to a point so high that it sweeps everything before you
in a great upsurge of Light, making it impossible for the
banking/military leaders and their troops to continue their dark
practices. In doing so, you will rescue the Kingdoms of the Earth from
the destruction they are suffering right now. In creating this powerful
tsunami of Light, you will reach the tipping point, beyond which no
destruction will be possible because the higher dimensions are
completely intolerable for anyone invested in darkness.
The dark minions will be forced by the simple physics of Light to
drop their weapons and close the doors of their greed-fueled
establishments. They will experience exactly the same overwhelming,
painful vibration which has driven the cetaceans to beach themselves. A
whale cannot cover its ears and scream, but the humans who harbor
destructive energy will feel that way.
So, Dear Ones, here is my challenge to you: Envision your friends and
fellow travelers in their ocean, air and forest habitats. See them
close to you, joyfully swimming, flying and bounding toward you to greet
you and look into your eyes. Feel your exhilaration and joyful
laughter as you see emerging around you the fairies, elves and other
nature spirits who are so gentle and filled with Love. Watch in your
mind's eye the playful leaping and splashing of the dolphins with their
young. Revel in the sense of intimate connection with these beautiful
Creations of God.
Picture in the distance the scheming and calculating managers of
money and power, engrossed in their dirty dealings. See their sallow
skin, their hollow smiles and contrived gestures. Notice how empty of
joy or real camaraderie they are. Do not draw close to them; they are
not of your vibration. Instead, focus your attention on the overflowing
Love you feel in the company of your Brethren, and create a Light
channel to focus and direct your joyful and loving feelings toward them.
See the Light and Love wash over them, seeping into every pore of
their being, pouring directly into their hearts. As they fight against
the onslaught of Light, see them stiffen and try to fight off the
feelings of Love they are absorbing. Some will double over, others will
cover their ears and close their eyes, others will cry out in pain as
they fight against the Light.
Soon, it will be impossible for them to fend off the great power of
Love, and they will find themselves, weak and overcome, helplessly
falling to the floor, submitting to the feelings of joy that fills every
part of their soul, their bodies and minds.
They will feel themselves hopelessly in Love, weak in the knees with
the deep and powerful energies which course through their veins, opening
all their channels to receive Light. They will arise from their faint
with the sound of a song in their ears and in their hearts. It will be a
song of joy and celebration for the deep and abiding connection with
All Things.
They will be brought to tears by the emotions of compassion,
gratitude and Love, and they will fall to their knees to ask forgiveness
for the pain they have caused their precious Brothers and Sisters.
God's great Light of forgiveness will fill their souls with relief and
happiness, and the gratitude they feel will remain with them as the new
and permanent feeling which will guide their actions henceforth.
You, Beloved Ones, are going to change the world. These
newly-awakened people will become the next wave of impassioned
activists, and they have the skill and know-how to change all the things
you have prayed would be removed from your world. You. You have the
power to create this massive shift.

Whereas the assassination of John F. Kennedy is now understood to have been a classic CIA Public Execution Plan, it does not come close to 9/11 in terms of the number and magnitude of outright falsehoods, misleading statements, fake science and fraudulent facts submitted by officials and agents of the US Government. It appears that Russia has been conducting systematic data dumps on 9/11, the release of which represents more factual information on the attacks than any US Government source. Chemical analysis done by DOE Sandi was able to identify the chemical/radiation footprint or fingerprint of the warheads based on samples taken after 911 of the fallout at ground zero. (Editor’s note: Nuclear weapon use at ground zero is confirmed from multiple sources)
All plutonium based warheads have a chemical fingerprint that can identify the type of design and where the PU was made and how old it is. This was the 911 blackmail on Bush 1 and 2, the illegal transfer of surplus US nuclear weapons to the Israelis and why the continued cover up, along with the stolen gold and stock fraud that was going on Wall Street etc. According to file ENW57.pdf on page 66. Only a 2 kiloton device was needed to drop the buildings. A 2 kiloton device will produce a fireball of apx 150 to 200 feet in diameter at over 4000 degrees Centigrade. Just large enough to melt the I beams of the central core of the building and drop them in place. The light flash would last less than 1 second and primarily be in the UV light range. Overpressure would only be at 60PSI max and directed upwards with the blast. See underground effect.
Fallout would be minimal and located to within ground zero range only. Radiation would drop to acceptable levels within 72 hrs. after the blast. Melted steel and iron oxide or “nano thermite” is a byproduct of the very high gamma ray / Neutron flux induced into the central steel core. The radiation dissolves the steel into iron oxide consuming the carbon and silicone in the steel.
This explains the missing steel columns and the very important clue of the “vaporized’ 20 ton antenna tower atop the south tower. The upward blast of radiation literally vaporized it. Video evidence proves this to be true. (Editor’s note: Tower issue a vital one.)

Illegal distribution of US nuclear material to foreign allies was not limited to Israel. Virtually all NATO allies were in on this scam too. Dick Cheney was the bad guy on this one. It appears that the weapon of choice for the Israelis were the W-54 and follow on series of nuclear pits taken from the Amarillo TX storage dump. This was what Carnaberry was working on for Bush senior in Houston.
A total of over 350 pits were transferred to the Israelis over a 10 to 20 year period of time. The W-54 type of pit design were the most desirable due to the 2 point implosion pit design. This is the easiest to re manufacture and modify as compared to other circular pit designs.
The pill shaped design of the W-54 type weapon contains over 1.5 times more plutonium than a standard pit. This would allow enough Plutonium to be recovered that was still of weapons grade use even after 32 plus years of age. Americium build up in the pit over time eventually makes the Pit unusable as a weapon so they have a limited shelf life based on how fast or slow the Plutonium was produce in the reactor at Stanford.
Usually it was about 150 days max. Irradiation time in the reactor during production determines the shelf life of the pit as weapons grade material. All of the micro nukes used by the Israelis are re-manufactured W-54 type series devices.

These are stored in most Israelite embassies for ease of deployment. The one’s used on 911 were kept at the Israeli consulate in NYC until put in place. After 911 the FBI now checks all diplomatic pouches with a Geiger counter before entering or leaving the US. The South African weapons were also surplus W-54 artillery shells acquired from Israeli and final assembly and testing was done in South Africa with Israel assistance. This was done because the Israelis needed a testing ground in order to make sure that there rebuilt weapons would work as designed. (Editor’s note: Testing on Sept. 22, 1979 multiple confirmations.) The North Korean weapons are also of the 155 mm artillery design as provided by Israel.
The true North Korean nuclear weapons program is based on nuclear artillery use and not missiles. The plan is to use a massive artillery barge on South Korea if war breaks out this include the use of small nuclear artillery shells to counter US tanks rockets and artillery.
The Saudi’s also have a stash of W-54′s acquired from the US under Bush2. Canada had been believed to be the source of Brazilian nuclear weapons.) Dimona is a standard 75 megawatt thermal open top reactor as used in France for their plutonium weapons production program, their version of Stanford (Editor’s note: Probably “Hanford”).

Due to overuse as a fast breeder reactor by the Israelis, Dimona suffered a “steam explosion” IE a flash over indecent due to neutron criticality back in the late 1980′s under Bush 1. This shut down its operation for many years until repairs could be made.
It now only operates at very low power levels due to neutron absorption damage to the containment vessel. Now mainly use for isotope production. This forced the Israelis to turn to stolen nuclear stockpiles from the US for the continuation of their nuclear program.
The Israelis knowing that the nuclear material that they had acquire only had a limited shelf life left before it was no longer usable as weapons grade then tried to dump it on the surplus market as fast as possible before it was of no use to them. So they dumped it on unsuspecting nations who would only sit on it and not be able to test it. These were the fissile tests in North Korea. (Editor’s note: Confirmed, multiple sources)
When everybody caught on to the scam such as Japan and Korea. (IE the Korean sub sinkings etc) they were angry because they paid big bucks for junk. This started a mini cold war with Israel and her old clients. However with micro nukes even as the plutonium ages it will still fissile producing a smaller size detonation well under 2 kiloton in size.
So they can still be used as small dirty bombs or as very small tactical nukes such as the nuclear artillery strikes on Damascus with rocket assisted W-54′s. (Editor’s note: Confirmed strike, May 4, 2013) On the W-54 pit design it is pill shaped and it is only about 4 inches in diameter and weighs about 24 pounds.
Most of the fuel is consumed in the plasma fire ball when detonated so there is very little plutonium fallout left to escape. If it is salted with other materials the fallout can be even reduced to lower levels such as in an enhanced radiation device or the so called neutron bomb. This is what was used on 911.

The primary purpose of the nuclear weapon used on 911 was to produce a massive Gamma ray / neutron flux that would vaporize about 150 to 300 feet of 6 inch thick steel I beams that constituted the central core of the WTC buildings. This created a free fall event as seen on TV that day.
The flash would be hidden from sight due to the underground detonation. Most of the light was in the non-visible light spectrum any way. Overpressure would be reduced to 6 psi due to the blast traveling up the central core and neutron radiation vaporizing the TV antenna at the top of the building as see on TV.
The fallout would be mainly vaporized concrete cement and iron oxide. This is why after 911 they told everyone on TV that the beta radiation burns that people were getting were due to the caustic cement dust and not due to the radiation effects from the radioactive cement fallout. Radiation decay was reduced to safe low levels after 72 hrs., (Editor’s note: Fully confirmed) outside of ground zero itself. This is why the area was blocked off from the public for 3 days after the event, in order to let the radiation drop to safe levels.
I wasn’t really paying attention at first, but in my opinion, the many
deaths all seem to be related to deeply entrenched financial fraud and
the discovery of High Frequency Trading, (thus the technology
connection) as well as corruption in other markets, going back for some
time. There is also a question of who is benefiting via insurance
claims on the deceased. The original source that has the full story is a

I think the handwriting is on the wall, as we continue to connect the
dots indicating massive corruption beyond what we have previously
conceived of. Now that the Genie is about to come out of the bottle,
there’s no stopping the flow of revelations, and not even the mighty JP
Morgan can put it back in.
The new BRICS bank created this week also foreshadows a positive
shift to a fair and equitable financial system being in the works. I

Time has come to release
more intel about the Chimera group. Parts of this intel may seem unbelievable
for some people, but truth is stranger than fiction.
This group includes the
leaders of the dark forces from the
Andromeda galaxy. They came to Earth in humanoid physical bodies 25,000 years
ago and quarantined the planet. They have built a scalar electromagnetic fence
around the Earth (the Veil), effectively preventing positive ET contact and
thus isolating humanity. Then they constructed a vast network of subterranean
cities, using Draconians as slave handlers and Reptilians as slaves and
controlled the human population on the surface of the planet from there.
Their main strongholds at
that time were under Africa, China and Tibet. They had no direct contact with
the surface civilization until the early 20th century. That timeframe has seen
interesting occult developments.

forces have formed the Thule society in Germany. Very soon it was infiltrated
by the Archon-controlled Rothschild agent named Adolf Schicklgruber (Hitler)
and became an instrument of the dark and it further morphed into the Vril
society which was developing secret German space program:

this, they realized that the surface human population has reached sufficient
technological development to reach for the stars and pierce the Veil. To
suppress that, they have made their first contact with the surface population
through Karl Haushofer on his travels to Tibet. After that contact was made, Chimera-controlled

After the Nazis have lost
WW2, they have been imported into the United States through Operation
Paperclip, where they formed the backbone of the military-industrial complex, continued
to develop their secret space program and started to build deep underground
military bases, financed with Yamashita gold. The Chimera group was behind the
scenes, carefully watching the moves of the US military-industrial complex and
making sure that the quarantine status of the planet was maintained and kept
intact. The growing nuclear arsenal of the Negative Military was a great concern
for the Galactic Confederation forces and they made an experiment to minimize the
yield of the thermonuclear bomb at the Castle Koon nuclear test in 1954:
After the Confederation has
successfully decreased the yield of the bomb by almost 90%, the
military-industrial complex became afraid and united their forces against the
perceived threat from the »tall whites« . This was exactly as Chimera wanted,
because now they had Negative Military united worldwide, working on the common
goal of maintaining the quarantine. Very strict secrecy protocols were
established and no leaks about »deep events« which could disrupt the quarantine
status were tolerated. This is the
reason why you can find no real proof about the existence of ET civilizations
anywhere and most »evidence« is fabricated by CIA to further confuse the issue.
This is also the reason why you can not find any deep intel on internet but
just endless recycling of well-known facts instead. You might already have
noticed that almost all intel about UFOs and deep underground military bases is
decades old.
You can find the only mention
of the Chimera group in a James
Casbolt's interview. He is one of the very few people with access to deep intel
who went public. Although not everything in here is correct, it is worth
reading:
The Chimera group worships
the Black Sun, which is their symbol for the Galactic Central Sun. Their leader
is still in a possession of a single piece of the Black Stone, which is a lump
of heavy top/antitop quark condensate. It was brought to Earth from Rigel in
1996. The Black Stone is the center of the primary cosmic anomaly of darkness
and is far more dangerous than the strangelet bomb, as top quarks are much
heavier than strange quarks:
Leaders of the Chimera group
are the guardians of the electromagnetic null zone.
The Chimera group had their
own network of underground bases until they were recently cleared out by the
Resistance. These bases were connected with a high speed train system. To
clarify the situation, until recently there were three underground train
systems: the one connecting deep underground military bases of the Negative
Military, the one connecting the Chimera bases and the one connecting the
Resistance bases. The Resistance train system was the one I have seen back in
1977. The existence of the underground train system of the Negative Military
has been leaked to the surface population through this RAND document:
Now only the underground
train system of the Resistance is fully operational. The Chimera group is
mostly contained in the uppermost underground sections of the surface military
bases, closer than 100 feet (30 meters) to the surface. Their main current
strongholds, through which they control the surface of the planet, are:

Each of those locations has
their own strangelet bomb on its territory. Those strangelet bombs are quite
dangerous and they are the main reason why the Positive Military is not yet making
their move for the Event:

entry/exit point is Cold Spring Harbor, a genetics laboratory where the Chimera
produces top Cabal members clones, according to some unconfirmed sources:
The Chimera group has
hijacked the global financial system from the hands of the central bankers in
the last decade through the PROMIS software and through high speed trading programs.
The Resistance and the Organization (its forerunner) were aware of those
programs for quite some time and were able to siphon off about 70 trillion
dollars away from the black funds of the Cabal. That money will be given back
to humanity after the Reset through the collateral accounts.
The Chimera group must not
be confused with the breakaway civilization. The breakaway civilization
originated in Nazi occult space program and evolved into a military-industrial
complex with many black projects, whereas the Chimera group is the driving
force behind the breakaway civilization, manipulating it to help maintaining
the quarantine status of planet Earth. The demarcation line between the
Chimera group and the breakaway civilization is called the phase boundary, of
which nothing more can be said publicly, and the Event / the Compression Breakthrough
can also be called the phase transition.
The Light forces have
developed a protocol for the defeat of the Chimera group and the protocol is
being carried out.
Steve Kroft reports on a new book from Michael Lewis that reveals how some high-speed traders work the stock market to their advantage.
The following script is from "Rigged" which aired on March 30, 2014. Steve Kroft is the correspondent. Draggan Mihailovich, producer.
This month marks the fifth anniversary of the current bull market on Wall Street, making it one of the longest andstrongest in history. Yet U.S. stock ownership is at a record low and less than half of Americans trust banks and financial services. And in the last two weeks, the New York attorney general and the Commodities Futures Trading Commission in Washington have both launched
investigations into high-frequency computerized stock trading that now controls more than half the market.
The probes were announced just ahead of a much anticipated book on the subject by best-selling
author Michael Lewis called "Flash Boys." In it, Lewis argues that the stock market is now rigged to benefit a group of insiders that have made tens of billions of dollars exploiting computerized trading. The story is told through an unlikely cast of characters who figured out what was going on and have devised a plan to correct it. It could have a huge impact on Wall Street. Tonight, Michael Lewis talks about it for the first time.
Steve Kroft: What's the headline here
Michael Lewis: Stock market's rigged. The United States stock market, the most iconic market in global capitalism is rigged.
Michael Lewis: By a combination of these stock exchanges, the big Wall Street banks and high-frequency traders.
Steve Kroft: Who are the victims?
Michael Lewis: Everybody who has an investment in the stock market.

Michael Lewis is not talking about the stock market that you see on television every day. That ceased to be the center of U.S. financial activity years ago, and exists today mostly as a photo op. This is the stock marketthat Lewis is talking about; the one where most of the trades take place now, inside hundreds of thousands of these black boxes located at morethan 60 public and private exchanges, where billions of dollars in stock change hands every day with little or no public documentation. The
trades are being made by thousands of robot computers, programmed to buy and sell every stock on the market at speeds 100 times faster than youcan blink an eye. A system so complex, it's all but invisible.
Michael Lewis: If it wasn't complicated, it wouldn't be allowed to happen. Thecomplexity disguises what is happening. If it's so complicated you can't understand it, then you can't question it.
Steve Kroft: And this is all being done by computers?
Michael Lewis: All being done by computers. It's too fast to be done by humans. Humans have been completely removed from the marketplace.
"Fast" is the operative word. Machines with secret programs are now trading stocks in tiny fractions of a second, way too fast to be seen or recorded on a stock ticker or computer screen. Faster than the market itself. High-frequency traders, big Wall Street firms and stock exchanges have spent billions to gain an advantage of a millisecond for themselves and their customers, just to get a peek at stock market prices and orders a flash before everyone else, along with the opportunity to act on it.
Michael Lewis: The insiders are able to move faster than you. They're able to see your order and play itagainst other orders in ways that you don't understand. They're able to front run your order.
Michael Lewis: Means they're able to identify your desire to, to buy shares in Microsoft and buy 'em in front of you and sell 'em back to you at a higher price. It all happens in infinitesimally small periods of time. There's speed advantage that the faster traders have is milliseconds, some of it is fractions of milliseconds. But it''s enough for them to identify what you're gonna do and do it before you do it at your expense.
Steve Kroft: So it drives the price up.
Michael Lewis: So it drives the price up, and in turn you pay a higher price.
"If it wasn't complicated, it wouldn't be allowed to happen. The complexity disguises what is happening. If it's so complicated you can't understand it, then you can't question it."
Michael Lewis is not the first person to allege the stock market is rigged or that high-frequency traders are front running the market but he was the first to find Brad Katsuyama, who is the first to figure out how it was being done.
Michael Lewis: A very unlikely character, a trader at the Royal Bank of Canada, a young Canadian man named Brad Katsuyama realized that the market that he thought he knew had changed. The market seemed to be willing to sell a stock. But the minute he went to buy it, someone else bought it, the stock went up. It was as if someone knew what he was doing before he did it.

Back in 2008, Katsuyama was 30 years old and running the Royal Bank of Canada's stock desk in New York with 25 traders working for him. Every time one of them tried to buy a large block of stock for a client their order would only be partially filled and the price of the stock would go up. It kept happening over and over again.
Brad Katsuyama: The best analogy I think is that your family wants to go to a concert. You go onto StubHub, there's four tickets all next to each other for 20 bucks each. You put in an order to buy four tickets, 20 bucks each and it says, "You've bought two tickets at 20 bucks each." And you go back
and those same two seats that are sitting there have now gone up to $25.
Steve Kroft: What'd you think the problem was?
Brad Katsuyama: I had no idea. I couldn't get answers.
At first, Katsuyama thought the technology at RBC was slow, until he went to Stamford, Conn., and paid a visit to one of the largest hedge funds in the world.
Brad Katsuyama: The same thing that I was experiencing as a trader, one of the most sophisticated hedge funds in the world was also having the same problem. Then the light bulb goes off. You say, "Holy cow, this is, this is a huge problem."
Steve Kroft: You were determined to get to the bottom of it?
Brad Katsuyama: Yeah.
Steve Kroft: Why?
Brad Katsuyama: 'Cause it just didn't feel right. It didn't feel right that people who are investing on behalf of pension funds and retirement funds are getting bait and switched every single day in the market.
Katsuyama suspected that the problem had something to do with plumbing, the way the trades were routed through fiber optic cables from his trading desk in lower Manhattan to the 13 public exchanges in northern New Jersey. But no one would tell him exactly what happened to his orders once he hit the buy or sell button. So he put together a team of technical experts, traders and most importantly, an Irish telecom guy named Ronan Ryan, who was an expert on high-speed fiber optic networks.
Ronan Ryan: I knew nothing about trading until my first day at RBC when I satin that three hour meeting on algorithms. I called my wife afterwards. And I'm like, "Holy crap, I have no idea what they just said."
Ryan had done work for the high-frequency traders. He knew what they were building and he knew about the colossal amounts of money they were prepared to spend. He told Brad about a company called Spread Networks that had laid a high-speed fiber optic cable from the futures market in Chicago to the exchanges in New Jersey. They spent $300 million just to shave three milliseconds off the fastest route and were leasing access to high-frequency traders at $10 million a pop.
Michael Lewis: From Brad Katsuyama's point of view, when he heard they were willing to spend that kind of money for milliseconds it told him the sums involved were vast. That was one of the first questions he said he had. He says, "All right, I'm getting ripped off. Everybody's getting ripped off. But what does it add up to?" And I think when he heard the story of Spread Networks, he realized this is tens of billions of dollars we're talking about.
Ronan Ryan also knew where all the cable was buried and had detailed maps of the fastest routes from the financial district in lower Manhattan to the various stock exchanges in New Jersey, all calculated down to the millisecond.
Ronan Ryan: So I would sit there, roll out maps, and roll out this data center as a box and a line going through it. And they had no idea what I was on about. And then I'd be like, "Hey are you guys aware of where these data centers are located? Of course you're arriving there at different time intervals."
For Brad, the maps turned what had been an abstract idea into something he could actually see. The first place his orders were landing was the BATS Exchange across the river in Weehawken, N.J., and high-frequency traders were lying there in wait.
Michael Lewis: Brad realizes,"Oh my God, that's how I'm being front-runned. I'm being front-runned
because my signal gets to the BATS Exchange first and they can beat meto all the, all the other exchanges."
It only took a tiny fraction of a second for Brad's trade to reach the next exchanges on the network, but the high-speed traders were able to jump in front of him, buy the same stock and drive the price up before his order arrived, producing a small profit of just one or two pennies. But it was happening to everyone's trades millions of times a day.
Michael Lewis: One hedge fund manager said, "I was running a hedge fund that was $9 billion and that we figured that the, just our inability to, to make the trades the market said we should be able to make was costing us $300 million a year." That was $300 million a year in someone else's pocket.
Steve Kroft: Is this illegal?
Michael Lewis: No. That's the thing that's so shocking about all this. It should...
Steve Kroft: Well you used the word front running. Front running's illegal.
Michael Lewis: This form of front running is legal. It's legalized frontrunning. It's crazy that it's legal for some people to get advance news on prices and what investors are doing. It's just nuts. Shouldn't
happen.
Ronan knew the only way to beat the high-frequency traders was to take away their milliseconds advantage that allowed them to sniff out slower trades and beat them to the exchange. He had an idea
how to do it.
Brad Katsuyama: And he said, "You're probably better off trying to go slower," which means send the order to the exchange located the farthest away first and send the order to the one that's located to you last. So stagger when you send them out with the goal of arriving at all places, as close to the same time as possible.
Katsuyama and his team developed software that did just that, allowing the orders of Royal Bank of Canada's customers to reach all of the exchanges at the same time, cutting the high-frequency traders out of the equation.
Brad Katsuyama: And essentially our fill rates went to 100 percent. We couldn't believe it when, when we actually figured it out.
Steve Kroft: So you beat speed by slowing it down.
Brad Katsuyama: Yeah, as crazy as that sounds.
Katsuyama and his team went out and began selling and explaining what they had discovered to the big mutual funds, pension funds and institutional investors, people who had suspicions that they were being front-run but didn't know how.
Steve Kroft: And nobody had really bothered or tried to figure this out until Brad Katsuyama came along...
Michael Lewis: It was in nobody's interest to, correct. I spoke to dozens of investors, big investors, famous investors who, who said that, "When Brad Katsuyama came into my office and laid out to me how the market was rigged, my jaw hit the floor. I mean, I knew something was wrong. I just didn't know what it was and no one had told us."
Brad Katsuyama: Part of those meetings led us to believe, "Holy cow, this is, this is really something." 'Cause some of the most sophisticated, largest asset managers in the world, this is the first time they were hearing this story.
And some of the most famous names in the American stock market heard the pitch...
Michael Lewis: The Capital Group, T. Rowe Price, Fidelity, Vanguard, I mean, it, one after another. He was in their offices. They said, "This man walked in. Why is he gonna know how the stock market operates?" And, and at the end of the hour they said, "Oh, my God, he understands." Hedge fund titan David Einhorn of Greenlight Capital is one of the believers.
Steve Kroft: Was he able to show you how your orders were being front run?
David Einhorn: Oh yeah. They had, they, they got the marker and the white board and started drawing maps and boxes, and wires and locations. And yeah, we went through it in some detail.
Steve Kroft: Did you find it interesting?
David Einhorn: It was. It was.
Clients like Einhorn encouraged Brad and his team to do something bigger. That's when Katsuyama, a conformist even by Canadian standards, decided to do something radical. In 2012, he quit his high-paying job as head trader at RBC and went off with some of his team to start their own
exchange.
Steve Kroft: You were making good money at Royal Bank of Canada?
Brad Katsuyama: Yeah, right.
Steve Kroft: Millions of dollars?
Brad Katsuyama:: Right. I guess, I guess everybody know that now? Right, yeah.
Steve Kroft: Why did you wanna go off and walk away from that job and start a stock exchange?
Brad Katsuyama: Yeah, wasn't an easy conversation to have with my wife, that's for sure. It almost felt like a sense of obligation to say, "We found a problem. It's, it's affecting millions and millions of people.
People are blindly losing money they didn't even know they're entitled to. It's a hole in the bottom of the bucket.
They set out to build an exchange funded exclusively by large traditional investors. They called it IEX, the investor's exchange, and quietly launched it in October with the support of some of the biggest layers on Wall Street. And it comes with built in speed bumps to eliminate the advantage of high-speed predators.
Michael Lewis: And the way they did it was they coiled 60 kilometers of fiber optic cable between themselves and the high-frequency traders computers. They call it the magic shoe box and it looks like it's got fishing line init. But essentially, a high-frequency trader, if he tries to react on the IEX exchange, his trade goes (makes noise) for 60 kilometers until, so he's, he's in east Jesus.
Steve Kroft: So it gets there the same time as everybody else.
Michael Lewis: It gets there same time as everybody else's.
Steve Kroft: Do you think they can game you?
Ronan Ryan: I think that they'll try to game us. I think the fact, though, that we've gone and met with the majority of the biggest high-frequency firms to explain what the magic shoebox is doing and that people haven'tsaid, "Oh that's rubbish. That won't work." We've had many ask us for a backdoor, to be honest. So that says something that it'll work. The exchange is off to a strong start, although it is still very small with lots of powerful enemies that like the status quo and are trying to starve IEX by discouraging customers from using them. Greenlight Capital's David Einhorn is one of the investors.
Steve Kroft: Do you think IEX will survive?
David Einhorn: I think it's gonna succeed. I think it's gonna succeed in a very big way.
Just last week, IEX received a strong endorsement from Goldman Sachs, whose
top executives cited it as a model for a more stable and less
complicated stock market.
Brad Katsuyama: We're selling trust. We're selling transparency. And, and, and to think that trust is
actually a differentiator in a service business, it's kind of a crazy thought, right?
Michael Lewis: Why is this kid, why is he able to all of a sudden sit at the center of the American stock market? And the answer is, when someone walks in the door who is actually trustworthy,
he has enormous power. And this is the story, story of trying to restore trust to the financial markets.
Few journalists have achieved the impact and recognition that Steve Kroft's
