April's Libran full Moon is a total lunar eclipse. It is a 'blood moon' - sometimes used to describe a total lunar eclipse. When the Earth casts its shadow on a full Moon and eclipses it, the Moon may get a red glow. Total lunar eclipses are rare – only about one in three lunar eclipses are total. About four to five total eclipses can be seen at any place on Earth in a decade. Lunar eclipses usually do not occur in any specific order. However, every once in a while, four total lunar eclipses happen in a row. This is called a lunar tetrad. Click here for more information.
This is yet another powerful full Moon, and, it is the last full Moon (and a lunar eclipse at that) that is involved so closely with the Uranus/Pluto square. We are seeing the winding up of that particularly huge social movement that we've been experiencing. Other things, of course, will take it's place, but, at least, we are seeing the end of the Uranus/Pluto squares that have been so incredibly intense and meaningful over the last 3 or so years. So, this powerful full Moon is opposite Uranus and square Pluto; it is yet another transformational lunation. This, then, is a major time of letting go - of purging those things that no longer work for you. Saying goodbye to things that are holding you back is key. Jupiter in Leo is sextile the Moon and trining the Sun, providing a way out - it can bring instances of good luck, serendipity and breakthroughs.
The Sabian Symbol for the lunar eclipse is Libra 15: Circular Paths. The following is from my book The Sabian Oracle: 360 Degrees Of Wisdom.
‘Circular Paths’ symbolize a situation where there is a continual coming round back to the same place. It can picture a pattern of going round and round, with no real outcome and no sense of a final destination. In some instances, this can be good, as it can be rather meditative but it can also prove to be a very real waste of time. Over the last few years, we have seen the continual coming back to learn what seems to be the same lessons, over and over again. Are we going around in circles, or, are we walking the labyrinth?
You may feel as though you are back where you started, like you have been through this
whole thing before. However, it’s best to consolidate, remember and appreciate the experience and learn what you have gained on your way to where you are now. When you are returning to what appears to be where you started, you always have some level of new experience and new skills. Sometimes life seems to be a continuously repetitive journey and there can be the need to break the chains that bind you. It can feel like a karmic wheel. ‘Circular Paths’ may be experienced in school, at work or at home where routines can become boring, repetitive and never-ending. Indeed, it can feel like there’s no possibility of escape. But every experience is an opportunity and every opportunity is an experience—no matter how many times it has been done before. That is, unless you’re really losing ground or time is slipping away to complete something. Procrastination can be like treading water or being stuck on these ‘Circular Paths’. Do you keep telling yourself that you’re going to stop something one day? Take heart and realize that everything is always in motion and there’s the possibility of stepping off this treadmill when the time is right. If you take the trouble to look at the real details of your experience rather than just experiencing dull repetition, something new and inspiring can always be found.
Keywords: Going round and round. The orbits of the planets. Cosmic rhythms and cycles. The cycles of life. Things we feel we can trust. The secure path that never really leads anywhere. Crop circles. Realizing mistakes and learning from them. The wheels of progress. Merry-go-rounds. Circular machinery. Mazes and labyrinths. Chaos theory. Learning through repetition. Looking for somewhere to park.
The Caution: Being lost in abstractions or small details. Losing perspective from going round and round. Addictive cycles that are hard to get rid of. Boredom. Episodes that repeat themselves. Repeating the same actions or mistakes. Treadmills. Habits that are self-defeating.
The Karmic Degree for the Moon is Libra 14: IN THE HEAT OF THE NOON, A MAN TAKES A SIESTA
Taking some time out to think about what needs to be done, or, just taking a break can lead to a revival of energy and inspiration. However, as this is the Karmic Condition of this lunar eclipse, it can signal a feeling of just wanting to stop - just wanting to jump off the merry-go-round, to find a sense of peace... it can also point to a feeling of immobilization where we don't know what to do next.
Keywords: Meditation. The need to take time out. Sleep apnea and other sleep disorders. Midday rushes. Recuperating or laziness. Hammocks. Long lunch hours. Rejuvenation. Knowing when to call a halt. Taking breaks. Looking after one's health. Tiredness and yawning. Hot and demanding days leading to inertia or exhaustion. Dreams and fantasies.
The Caution: Wasting time. Being disinterested in things. Losing energy or interest when one should be at the peak of activity or achievement. Refusing to take a break. Going past the bounds of what should be done. Working so hard that one is forced to stop through exhaustion or ill-health. Always being on the go while others sit back and enjoy. Losing one's grip on reality. Unwinding after toil or trouble. Withdrawal.
The Quest Degree for the Moon is Libra 16: AFTER THE STORMS OF WINTER, A BOAT LANDING STANDS IN NEED OF RECONSTRUCTION
A 'Storm' can sweep through and damaged, or ruined, or disrupted, some usually secure part of life. The 'Boats' cannot dock at the 'Boat Landing' if it is destroyed or shaky or insecure. Situations, possessions and people may be compromised, or let go of. Our foundations can be rocked almost to the point of complete destruction. Now there's the need for 'Reconstruction'. What tools can you use now, to rebuild those parts of your life that need renewal?
Keywords: Temporary loss. Emotional repair. Tools to repair damage and build a new life. Having faith that the worst is over and recovery can begin. Calling in the experts. Taking time to put the pieces back together. Working to ensure the safety of the community. Insurance claims. The fragility of man's world in the face of nature. Returning to work.
The Caution: Making excuses instead of fixing things. Feeling emotionally swamped and powerless. Being torn apart. Leaving things a mess. Feeling shot to pieces. Letting things wear down to the point of collapse. Having nowhere to dock. Arguments and violence.
Relationships in general are in high focus with this lunar eclipse.
The Sun is on Aries 15: AN INDIAN WEAVING A BLANKET IN THE LIGHT OF THE SETTING SUN
'An Indian Weaving a Blanket' shows that we need to take time out to do the things that aren't particularly exciting or rewarding on a large scale, but do, however, provide feelings of contentment, warmth, safety and security. In 'Weaving the Blanket', the 'Indian' not only creates something that is useful, but weaves into it images of their life and history. Often the patterns and pictures woven into it easily identify the tribe this 'Blanket' comes from. Being 'In the Light of the Setting Sun', there may be a feeling of the energy of the light, the 'Sun', fading, leaving little time to achieve what needs to be done, however, taking things one step at time brings rewards, some of which may come unexpectedly.
Keywords: The fabric of one's being. Traditional pastimes and skills. Weaving security and independence. Patience and gentle handcrafting. Stories, especially those handed down. Tales and traditions. Consideration of one's unique history. Weaving, spinning looms. The warp and weft of life. One's life story—past and present. Being focused on one's tasks. Colours, dyes. Threads.
The Caution: Underestimating skills of self- expression in comparison with intellectual skills. Allowing dull routines to overcome. Feeling one hasn't got much to contribute. Inability to apply to routine and necessary tasks. Being too "full-time" about one's work. Feeling insecure no matter what the situation. Selling off one's integrity. Finding that it's too late in the day to get anything done. Not knowing when to stop.
The Sun symbolizes: One’s core center, spirit, heart, issues to do with father, men, self, ego, your male side. How you radiate your sense of being. What others see, how you are recognized or remembered, sense of identity and connection with male energy - yours and others.
Mercury is on Aries 9: A SEER GAZES INTENTLY INTO A CRYSTAL BALL BEFORE HIM
This Symbol shows the ability to focus, receive insights, analyze meaning and draw conclusions from the available information. It is likely that the whole picture is there in front of you, but you may need to interpret its meaning. With a little concentrated effort, you will be able to see things more clearly. There is the ability to observe things that others may miss. Try really tuning in and looking within for answers as you have the ability to see them with just a bit of focus. What is your unconscious mind trying to tell you? Is your gaze wide enough or too narrow? What are you really seeing?
Keywords: Flashes of inspiration. Tuning in and looking within for answers. Creative visualizations. Aura readings. Cutting through irrelevant messages. Looking carefully at structure. Seeking perfection. Clairvoyance. Illumination and deep insights. Looking ahead to see the signs.
The Caution: Confused by literal meanings. Not seeing the symbolic message. Always looking this way and that, not at the center. Getting lost in the big picture. Daydreaming and ignoring what's really going on. Obsessing over what may happen. Needing to know what's coming up. Being impatient.
Mercury symbolizes: Mind, thought, communication, memory, expression, intelligence. News, exchanges, chatting, conversations, short journeys, connections with others, telephones, emails, siblings, neighbors, the reasoning mind. Day-to-day activities. Cars, keys, small animals.
Venus is on Taurus 22: A WHITE DOVE FLYING STRAIGHT AND FEARLESSLY OVER TROUBLED WATERS
The 'White Dove' is a reassuring Symbol of messages regarding peace, hope and redemption. That the 'White Dove' is 'Flying Straight and Fearlessly Over Troubled Waters' shows a clear mission that needs to be fulfilled, without worrying about any personal consequences. Noah sent out a 'White Dove' from the Ark. It flew 'Straight and Fearlessly Over Troubled Waters', bringing back an olive branch, a sign that landfall was near and redemption was at hand. This Symbol implies a talent for bringing calm, protection and good tidings to those who need help. Although there may be trouble all around, you are able to rise above this and find safe ground. You may have to cross over into the dark side in order to bring order and safety to people’s lives. Even though you, or someone else, may be lost from sight for a while and some may feel abandoned, they will return and bring guidance to safety and reassurance. You may need to send, or receive, a message to those who could be feeling left out and in need of reassurance.
Keywords: Transcending worries through spiritual awareness. Prophetic missions. Peace. Healing messages from the "other side". Overcoming phobias. Fearlessness. Feelings of immortality. Going straight for the objective. Calming troubled minds. Redemption and messages of hope. Couriers.

Mars is on Taurus 3: NATURAL STEPS UP TO A LAWN BLOOMING WITH CLOVER
This Symbol implies 'Steps' that are inviting, promising and easy to climb. It feels as though they're leading to the promise of beauty, greenery and repose. They are 'Blooming With Clover', which shows there is a reward at hand when those 'Steps' are taken. Bees love 'Clover' and 'Lawns Blooming With It' ensures that the bees will make honey and therefore life will be sweet. Clover has long been believed to mean good luck, prosperous circumstances and luxurious surroundings. Also, the expression "he's in clover" or "living in clover" comes from the belief that if you had plenty of 'Clover' for your cows to eat, they would produce good milk, thereby providing nourishment for everyone.
This Symbol often shows comfort, luxury, riches, beauty and the good things in life. It implies that a time of fulfillment is close by, but there often is still some small effort to be made in that one has to take the simple steps towards inviting wonderful things into your life. Keep going the way you are, following your natural intuition, and you will find the peace you have in sight. Just be aware not to become complacent or lazy as doing nothing and not putting any effort in could lead to great possibilities slipping away.
Keywords: Hopefulness. Inspirational possibilities. Gradually enlarging one's vision. Harmony. Seasonal changes. Running around on grass. Bare feet. The beauty of greenery and flowers. Stability on the path. Steps that invite one on to bigger and better things. Abundance, nourishment. Making small efforts that can lead to large returns. Places to spread out and relax. Having plenty of room to move. Gardens and parks.
The Caution: Looking for the easy way out. Not making the effort to find what is just a few steps away. Being lazy when one should be going for the objective. Temporary success. Expecting everything to be laid out before you. Weeds. Unkempt lawns. Neglected land.

Jupiter is on Leo 13: AN OLD SEA CAPTAIN ROCKING ON THE PORCH OF HIS COTTAGE
This Symbol is an image of someone who has put a lot of time and energy into his life's work. He has now reached the point where he can take time out, to rest and relax. However, being an 'Old Sea Captain', the love of the sea and adventure will be with him forever. He may or may not be retired; whatever, he is taking a break. He has a chance to get on with more domestic matters and to seek peace and quiet. This Symbol shows the need for quiet reflection, to look back at past experiences, especially those times that were threatening or exhausting in some way. Take some time for a little solitude and contemplate the overall picture of your life. You may want to read, go over past memories, indeed, write your memoirs. When back into the business of life you will be refreshed and have a better idea of how you fit in and what you want to achieve. This can sometimes indicate wanting to retire and withdraw from life too much so that it interferes with the ability to make a living or feel like contributing to society.
Keywords: Retreating into one's self. Reflecting. Quiet confidence. Knowing that one can conquer life's storms and come out wiser. Observing life from afar. Wanting to opt out. Retirement, pensions and pension plans. Being dismissed from one's job. Redundancy. The story of one's life. Memoirs. Rocking chairs and verandahs. Contemplation. Gardening. Longing for calmer days. Envying those that are '"out there'" in the world. Wanting others to look after you. Complacency. Giving in and giving up. Hangovers. Forgetfulness. Feeling impotent. Being uninvolved. Saturn is on Sagittarius 5: AN OLD OWL PERCHED HIGH UP IN A TREE
With the ability to twist his head right around, the wise 'Old Owl' sees all, seeing what others miss, and keeps very quiet whilst digesting all that is going on. Even though they appear to sit quietly, the 'Owl' is able to quickly snare its prey in the flash of a moment and he is far from the tumult at ground level and is out of reach from most predators. He can observe wide vistas below him and watch for prey. Owls also have incredible sense of hearing, pinpointing sounds accurately. This Symbol implies being able to quietly observe what’s going on around you. Owls can turn their heads right around and very little escapes their attention. They’re not easily detected in the trees as they usually only come out at night. They wait, watch and listen before making their move. There may be a need to consult with aged wisdom, either within yourself or from without. Emulating this behavior can bring feelings of solitude, but this may be what's needed. This can indicate insomnia caused by thinking or doing too much at bedtime. Saturn here could be implying that it's a good idea to keep your thoughts to yourself, at least until you get a better idea of how to proceed.
Keywords: Wisdom and strength. Evening contemplation. Keeping thoughts to oneself. A wise "sage" type of person. Nocturnal vision. Exalted wisdom. "Night owls". Heightened sight and seeing. Being silent and alert for the slightest movement. The ability to see all around. The spirit of birds. Silent flight. Having acute hearing. Lofty ideals.
The Caution: Smug denial of available wisdom. Someone thinking they know it all. Not wanting to join in with others in fun activities. Acting old before their time. Excluding others as being frivolous and unknowing. Waiting for one's prey. Black magic. Being old before one's time. Always being alone. Remote and cut off. Sitting isolated. Saying nothing when one should be saying something. Inability to sleep soundly.
Saturn symbolizes: Authority, rules, discipline and obligation The heavy stuff. What we fear, loss, karma, aging, the establishment, orthodoxy, tradition, status, the concept of time, walls, boundaries, limits, older people, restrictions, patience, conquering difficulties.
Uranus is on Aries 17: TWO PRIM SPINSTERS SITTING TOGETHER IN SILENCE
- Uranus is in high focus in this full Moon as it is conjunct (together with) the Sun and is opposing the Moon.
This Symbol shows people that know and understand each other, without the need for chatter. Feelings of contentment can come in time spent with a special friend, someone who you feel completely at ease with. A real sense of understanding of what the other is feeling and thinking can be a central quality of strong companionship. Of course, the 'Two Spinsters' may not be together through choice, but rather through life situations. It helps to remember to speak up about things when it feels important to do so, and, it's a good idea to keep things to yourself when you sense that no good can come from sharing some things. This Symbol shows that quiet withdrawal might be just what you need. However, it is easy to become isolated in conservative, albeit moral, ideas. You may find that there is only a select, restricted group with whom you wish to associate. There can be a quiet knowing that doesn’t need a lot of words or emotional displays. Just be wary that this false sense of security doesn't isolate you from change and growth. Unresolved issues can lead to stunted emotional responses. Look for opportunities to open up to new possibilities.
Keywords: The need to loosen up emotional blockages. The struggle to hold onto one's original identity. Compromise because of social expectations. Meditations that communicate. Exclusive relationships. Relationships that have a quiet "knowing". Dignified silence. Inner withdrawal. Communicating through body language.
The Caution: Emotional isolation. Refusing to accept relationship. Pretending to be someone that one is not. Disapproval of younger, more vital energies. Being fussy and judgmental. Neptune is on Pisces 9: THE RACE BEGINS: INTENT ON OUTDISTANCING HIS RIVALS, A JOCKEY SPURS HIS HORSE TO GREAT SPEED
This is an image of competition, speed and excitement. The 'Jockey' has one goal in mind; he is 'Intent on Outdistancing His Rivals'. This shows spurring to action when you need to, to rise to occasions that call for a sense of urgency or speed. Perhaps it's time to extract all the energy possible into situations. The “Race” is on, and you may feel that you can make it to the finish, but still you are not guaranteed victory. What efforts do you expend to push you faster and further than the rest of the field? Ensure that you're not expending all your energy too quickly and not really achieving anything of lasting value. Be wary of just bolting out of the gate without knowing what your true objective is. Needing to win at all costs can have others feeling like you’re not really ‘in the race’ – just wanting to win. As Neptune is on this degree, there can be confusion about how exactly it's best to go for one's objectives.
Keywords: Competitiveness and high ambitions. Wanting to win, sometimes against the odds. Losing and gaining weight. Weightlessness. Racing to be first at things. Demanding quick flight. Pluto is on Capricorn 16: SCHOOL GROUNDS FILLED WITH BOYS AND GIRLS IN GYMNASIUM SUITS
This Symbol brings to mind images of youthful people, doing their exercises, playing with and
enjoying each other on a physical level. The 'Boys and Girls' learn how to interact with each other in the 'School Grounds'. There is the sense that they are having fun, regardless of their individual level of fitness. Some will be very good at sports and be the stars in the 'Gym' whilst others are there because they want to join in the fun or because they are instructed to be there and have no choice.
Many of their relationship lessons are first learnt here. This degree shows being vibrant and alive and in the physical body with enthusiasm and excitement about life and the future. The “Gymnasium Suits” shows the need to get active and to stay active, to have time in your life to drop into the physical body and enjoy it. If you've been neglecting your physical well-being, it is good to reestablish that affinity with your vitality. Spontaneous enthusiasm and the joy of being 'alive' can regenerate and revive and bring about carefree contact with like minded people. The trick is to bring some form of physical discipline into your life while enjoying it and not feeling forced to do what you don’t want to do.
Keywords: Developing muscular coordination. Sexual energy, attraction or satisfaction. Playing, marching, competition, rivalry. Singing songs of unity. New anthems for the young. Chiron is on Pisces 19: A MASTER INSTRUCTING HIS DISCIPLE
'A Master' is 'Instructing His Disciple'. He is giving his 'Disciple Instruction' on how to handle life in the spiritual, intellectual and emotional realms. The 'Disciple' must listen to all the 'Master' says and teaches and must learn from his example. There's an old saying, "when the student is ready, the teacher appears". It could easily also be "when the student is ready, the lesson appears" – there are many ways to learn life's lessons. This shows the ability, or the need, to be a student, a “Disciple”, or a teacher, a “Master”. At times you’ll find yourself being either one or the other. You may be the teacher or the pupil, but remember that it is often the teacher that learns and the pupil that teaches. This shows taking time for the transfer of higher knowledge and wisdom. It’s also a sign to listen to your own higher wisdom. Someone with something worthwhile to say will usually find someone eager to listen. When you have a need to learn something, it seems that the “Master” will always appear.
Keywords: To give and to receive. Lessons that need to be well learnt. The transfer of knowledge. Taking time to instruct others. Being willing to both teach and learn. Step-by-step lessons. Passing on information. Instructions and directions. Laying down the law with someone. Manuscripts and lessons. Masters. Gurus. Guiding lights. Reinforcement of knowledge, wisdom and spirituality. Using knowledge as power over people. Feeling above everyone else. Co-dependant behaviour. One-eyed attitudes. Losing oneself in another.
Chiron symbolizes: Our wounds and it is known as The Wounded Healer, it also shows The Stories That We Tell Ourselves, it is where we have to focus on healing, it can show things that are out of shape or misplaced or in need of repair.
The Moon's North Node is on Libra 11: A PROFESSOR PEERING OVER HIS GLASSES
AT HIS STUDENTS
The 'Professor's' eyes have been strained over the years from doing close-up work with books and papers and now he needs 'Glasses' for reading and studying. The rational mind requires a different kind of "lens" to that of the emotion or intuition. When the 'Professor' moves his gaze or attention to 'His Students', he needs to use a different focus. He 'Peers Over His Glasses' to look at them and to see them as they truly are. If he observes them through the same intellectual "lenses" he uses for his study, he may neglect to see them as individuals with their own abilities and needs, and their human attributes will get lost in the process. This speaks of the ability, or the necessity, of looking at people as humans and not through the lens of something learned from books. It’s as though the aspects of the rational mind and the intuition require a different kind of focus. Seeing people for who they really are leads to better and kinder relationships, as does dropping judgmental opinions or relying on science or complicated codes of thought for answers. You may need to interrupt your rational mind to realize your intuitive ideas. At times you may feel like the “Professor” and at other times “The Student”.
Keywords: Lenses of perception. Seeing that others get the message. Intellectual snobbery.
Photography. Lenses as shields or barriers between people or things. Observing others. Examining one's self. Understanding where you're looking. Giving advice. Teachers. Professors. The ability to "read others". Motivations or talents of others seen and appreciated.
The Caution: Assuming a superior position. Thinking others have a lesser position or intelligence. Reading endless self-help books and not noticing real life. Bossing others. Not seeing, or caring to notice, one's own faults and limitations. Feeling separate from what's being said or taught. Distortions of perception or observation. Condescending behavior. Seeing people as interruptions.
The North Node symbolizes: This is known as quite a 'karmic point' (although all planets and points in a chart can be'karmic'). One's destiny in this life. The things you are meant to integrate, move towards, become. Destined relationships and relationship issues can show up here.
The Moon's South Node is on Aries 11: THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OR THE RULER OF ONE'S COUNTRY
'The President' or the 'Ruler' pictures a person who's in control, has a sense of authority and is called upon to do the right thing for his people, his 'Country' and indeed, his position or office. This 'President' or 'Ruler' has the right, and the duty, to call the shots in their territory or sphere of operation. This Symbol shows that it's time to take charge, to expand your base of operations and to show that you have the integrity and the necessary energy to get things done. It's also about bringing a sense of order and discipline into your life - physically, spiritually or emotionally. Find your sense of inner power and make it work for you and don't let others lord it over you. Be in control of your own destiny and individuality. Show that you can be given a position of responsibility and get things done. With the south node here, perhaps we need to learn these lessons, but, perhaps we also need to know when to let others take control?
Keywords: Developing willpower. Inner power, discipline and integrity. Discipline of thoughts, emotions and actions. Leadership, power and ability along with their responsibilities. Accepting responsibility for one's actions. "Calling the shots". Rulers, presidents, leaders. Taking charge. The need for loyal subjects. Being voted in. The democratic process.
The Caution: Taking control. Lording it over everyone. Being overbearing. Not allowing others to be in charge of their own lives, health or situation. Egotistical and self-centered. Undermining others through a lack of self-awareness or confidence. Being larger than life. Dictators and tyrants. Military Governments.
The South Node symbolizes: Past karmic patterns to be overcome, can be habits that are good, but can describe things, relationships, issues that you need to let go of, or, hold you back from manifesting your true destiny. Relationships that feel karmic and difficult, memories from the past.
