AS WE BEGIN the new week, we feel especially sensitive to the needs of others, and we are very aware of our basic human need to give and receive support. The Sun aligns with the nurturing Ceres on Monday, but since this conjunction is in Gemini, comfort needs may be most satisfied through one-on-one conversations that enable each person to feel truly heard.
The Mercury-Chiron sextile on Monday indicates that news or communications evoke our compassion and our desire to be a healing influence. We may find we are most effective when we allow plenty of time for another to talk about their problem. It will be helpful to offer simple and concrete solutions, while also acknowledging the other person's ability to think clearly and make their own decisions in times of stress.
TUESDAY'S ALIGNMENT between the asteroid Pallas Athene and the dwarf planet Eris is a bit of a wild card in the hand we're dealt this week. Eris is the goddess of discord, so her involvement often indicates increased tension -- but Pallas is the goddess of wisdom who brings forward new ideas and solutions. Hopefully the two deities can work together and provide the inspiration for each of us to use our discontent or anger to motivate wise action.
Mercury is at the midpoint of the Jupiter-Pluto square this week, drawing our attention to the drama unfolding on the world stage, especially those conflicts and power struggles fueled by belief systems. We'll need to be very self-aware when it comes to how our own biases affect our ability to respond wisely. And, with Mercury moving into Gemini on Tuesday, we may be on information overload before the week is over.
OUR FULL MOON on Friday occurs at 6:09am PDT (1:09pm GMT) in the sign of Sagittarius, indicating that belief systems, religions, and immigration are in the headlines. The Sabian symbol for the degree of the Moon may seem to point specifically to the issue of refugees, but it actually reflects the deep desire each of us has for a more perfect world:
"Pelicans, menaced by the behavior and refuse of men, seek safer areas for bringing up their young: The need for people concerned with the future to discover a new way of living and more wholesome surroundings."
The issues that press upon us now feel more urgent, perhaps, than they have in the past -- or maybe it's just that we're becoming more and more aware of a reality that's been there all along. When light shines into dark corners, it does not create new forms, it merely reveals what has been hiding in the shadows.
CHOOSING A STAR -- I'm excited to announce that this is the title for my upcoming teleclass! It came to mind as I was looking into the Total Eclipse that will occur on August 21, and discovered that it is aligned with two fixed stars. It's also a title that reminds me of one of my favorite poems, "Choose Something Like a Star" by Robert Frost.
Here's an excerpt from the poem that speaks to the theme of the class:
So when at times the mob is swayed
To carry praise or blame too far,
We may choose something like a star
To stay our minds on and be staid.
The teleclass will air live on Wednesday, June 28, and will be recorded for replay. Here's the overview of the class:
Choosing a Star
Astrological Guidance for July through December 2017
Most of us are aware of the upcoming “American Eclipse” in late August, a Total Eclipse of the Sun that will be visible in a 70-mile-wide path across the United States, from Oregon on the Pacific Ocean to the Carolinas on the Atlantic. This powerful eclipse occurs in the sign of Leo the Lion, activating inner courage and inspiration, and initiating creative action.
But many may not know that this pivotal eclipse is activating the influence of two fixed stars: Regulus, whose name comes from the Latin for “little king,” and Muhlifain, which means “the bright star of the oath” in old Arabic. This dual activation challenges us to make a personal vow as to our intentions going forward. We can commit to expressing the truly regal qualities of Leo the Lion– generosity of spirit, joy, openheartedness, and childlike appreciation. As we hold these energies, we are a part of creating the New Wave that will carry us into a deeper spiritual connection toward the end of the calendar year. On the other hand, if we waver in our daily commitment, it will be easy to be drawn into the drama, power struggles, and childishness characteristic of the lower end of the Leo spectrum.
In this teleclass, we’ll talk about the karmic implications of this Total Eclipse and the many other astrological events in the last half of 2017, and explore how they may impact us on personal and social levels. We’ll also walk week-by-week through each month to see the opportunities and challenges we will be working with collectively and individually.
You do not need to attend the class live if the timing isn't exactly right for you -- after the class airs, everyone who registered will receive a link to the replay and access to the slideshow I'll use during the class.

Hard to believe the class is just 24 days from now! I hope you can join us!
IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK: Home and family are very important to you this year, and communications with loved ones take on special significance. You may not always be as clear-minded and logical as you might expect, as your sensitivity to the suffering in the world is increased. Your challenge will be to feel compassion but not be overwhelmed by those feelings. On a personal level, you are learning to trust that you and your loved ones are supported and to have faith beyond your capacity to reason.
In peace,
Pam
