MERCURY, the planet of communication and information sharing, is quite active this week! Starting on Tuesday, news feeds and cell phones are in hyperdrive with Mercury in hard aspect to Jupiter.


But, the Messenger Planet is also in soft aspect to mystical Neptune on Tuesday. This will assist us in accessing our intuitive knowing -- the visceral awareness that guides us to know what we can believe, what has value for our lives, and what is a "false truth" or just of little consequence that we can discard or disregard.


GETTING CLEAR in our thoughts and beliefs is very important, since things start getting a little messy later in the week. Mercury aligns with Mars on Wednesday, which normally would just help us take action on our plans -- but there's a lot more tension involved since Mercury then goes on to oppose Pluto on Thursday (and Mars opposes Pluto on Sunday).


In other words, there's a lot of opposition going on. We'll of course see it in the headlines -- knowing that Mercury and Mars are in Cancer, the sign that rules public health and insurance companies, it's no surprise that the United States is dealing with great polarities in this area, and that issues are set to reach a crisis point this week.


WHENEVER PLUTO is involved in the mix, great passions are aroused, and even cordial exchanges can quickly become heated. Our best solution is to use the higher qualities of Cancer -- that ability of the Crab to walk sideways, moving out of the line of fire.


When we do this, either literally or figuratively, it allows us to gain a new perspective and to become more objective, since we no longer feel threatened and can relax our defensiveness. Once we've gained a better knowing of why we reacted so emotionally and how we want to address the issue, we can reengage from a much higher vibrational vantage point.


THE NEED FOR FAITH is heightened this week -- Chiron the Wounded Healer is coming to a standstill on Saturday, and starting its five-month retrograde phase. With Chiron in Pisces, the wound we are healing is one of disillusionment. It is based in a fear that we cannot trust in the benevolence of the universe, that we are alone, and that the only answer to our problems is to figure them out mentally and control them physically.


The issues that Earth and her inhabitants are working with now are SO large, that it's clear that each of us as an individual can only make a small difference. And when we realize that, it's easy to sink further into victimization or martyrdom and hopelessness. I'm sure we all have those moments, like when I see yet another video of how animals are mistreated, and I wilt with knowing that I can't possibly fix something that is SO wrong in the world.


TO FACILITATE CHANGE, we must believe in and invoke assistance from something greater than ourselves. For some, that "something" may be a spiritual being or a higher aspect of self. For others, it may be a community of like-minded others on the physical plane. For others, it may be a faith in an ideal or in the ultimate goodness of humanity. As Anne Frank so powerfully wrote in her diary, "I keep my ideals, because in spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart."


Yes, we still need to figure things out and make changes -- that's one of our jobs as physical human beings, and it's why we have minds and hands. But Chiron in Pisces is trying to heal a wound that has limited our evolution -- the belief that we are alone and unsupported.


What do you have faith in when the world seems to be running amok? How can you strengthen that faith now? And with Chiron's influence strong this week, how can you soothe and heal the aspect of yourself that still falls into the place of fear and overwhelm?

You may find that you learn the most about what you think and believe when you need to assert or defend yourself in some way. Be aware that your words have great impact this year, and that you may not always realize how they have affected the other person. If you are self-aware, intentional, and take the time to think before you act, you can do whatever you put your mind to -- you really are that powerful now!

Most of us are aware of the upcoming “American Eclipse” in late August, a Total Eclipse of the Sun that will be visible in a 70-mile-wide path across the United States, from Oregon on the Pacific Ocean to the Carolinas on the Atlantic. This powerful eclipse occurs in the sign of Leo the Lion, activating inner courage and inspiration, and initiating creative action.


But many may not know that this pivotal eclipse is activating the influence of two fixed stars: Regulus, whose name comes from the Latin for “little king,” and Muhlifain, which means “the bright star of the oath” in old Arabic. This dual activation challenges us to make a personal vow as to our intentions going forward. We can commit to expressing the truly regal qualities of Leo the Lion– generosity of spirit, joy, openheartedness, and childlike appreciation.
