THE SUN AND MOON have their monthly rendezvous on Monday. The New Moon occurs at 1:03 p.m. PST, at 15°45′ Aquarius -- the "Aquarius Point of Avatar." The influence of this visionary
point is activated at the lunation and carries into the lunar cycle that unfolds over the next four weeks.
Astrologer Mary Elizabeth Jochmans explains the energies associated with the Aquarius Point of Avatar in her book An Introduction to Karmic Galactic Astrology:
"This
point deals with innovative ideas for new etheric structures, new ways
of being, seeing, feeling, knowing, hearing, and creating. These etheric
structures must be created for the physical structures to follow."
When
this point is activated, we have greater access to a cosmic vision of
potentials, as well as to the beings who assist us from other
dimensions.
SPIRITUAL TEACHER
Matt Kahn explains that one reason many progressive ideas do not
manifest, in spite of all good intentions, is that the energetic
foundation has not been laid. In other words, the etheric structures
have not been created that will support the physical
manifestation of the ideal.
Perhaps
this new Aquarius lunar cycle will assist us in both envisioning new
positive potentials and creating the etheric structures that will
support their development. In her book, Ms. Jochmans explains that we
can accomplish this by "seeing the threads of possible etheric
structures and creating them on the etheric with mind imaging, sound,
symbol, or word."
I
would add that an essential ingredient in our creating etheric
structures is our intention. Even if we are not adept at imagining the
subtle planes, we can always create strong intentions and call in the
power of our guides and angels to help with manifesting those intentions
on the etheric -- which is the step just before something materializes
on the physical plane.
At
the very least, this should be an especially powerful New Moon for
creative visualization and ceremony. Our imagination and our intentions
are our most effective tools for this exercise.
URANUS
forms an opposition to the asteroid Pallas Athene this week. This
aspect occurs every four or five years or so, and normally would not
draw my attention as an important influence. But this year, due to
Pallas going retrograde on February 18, the two are in aspect
throughout February, with the exact opposition occurring again on
February 20 and repeating on September 11.
Pallas
Athene is named for the androgynous goddess of wisdom and war in
mythology. Her totems were the wise owl and the serpent of knowledge --
statues of the goddess show an owl sitting on her shoulder, and the
serpent coiled around her feet. Pallas was an accomplished teacher,
instructing Achilles and his compatriots both in the healing arts and in the strategies of battle.
In her book Asteroid Goddesses,
astrologer Demetra George writes that Pallas "is the vehicle through
which thoughts take form, and thus represents the spark of intelligence
that initiates the creative act ... Pallas Athene bestows the wisdom of
inner vision that endows perception of whole patterns. This mental image
is the seed whose fruit is the creative act. Thus, Pallas symbolizes
the
process of creative visualization and the knowledge of the laws of
manifestation."
IT IS A TESTAMENT
to the incredible intricacies of the Cosmic Plan that this emphasis on
Pallas should occur in the same lunar cycle that begins with a New Moon
conjunct the Aquarius Point of Avatar. And, with Uranus being the modern
ruler of Aquarius, the link between
the New Moon and the Uranus-Pallas opposition is also quite
synchronistic.
In
essence, the involvement of Uranus brings about sudden insights and
unexpected developments. We are more open than usual to new concepts and
enlightened perspectives. And, with Pallas being a warrior goddess, we
may also be more willing to fight for our right to think for ourselves,
and are not as concerned about the opinions of others.
For
examples of how this Uranus-Pallas opposition can play out in the human
experience, we can observe the creative and nonconformist lifetimes of
singer/songwriter/activist Joan Baez, and broadcast journalist Barbara
Walters, an early pioneer for the role of women in broadcasting.
ALTHOUGH
we can use the influence of this aspect in positive ways, there are
also cautions: We need to be very careful of overloading our nervous
systems this week, and perhaps throughout the new lunar cycle. This is
very electric energy, and can short-circuit more
delicate nerve endings, as well as frazzle our brains. Remember the ad
that warned, "This is your brain on drugs." ...?
To
help us deal with this side effect, Ms. George writes, "The resolution
of these challenges lies in aligning one's mental-creative impulses with
the higher channels of intuition and transpersonal thought."
And,
from a practical perspective, be aware of any time you start to feel
"fried" mentally or energetically, and give yourself a time out from
whatever you are doing. Find your favorite way of coming back into
balance, and do it. With Pallas currently in Libra, some techniques that
may be particularly helpful include tai chi, polarity therapy, a
counseling session, and enjoyment of beauty and the
arts. Also drink plenty of water, eat grounding foods, take your B vitamins and magnesium, and get good sleep.
THE OTHER ASPECT of
note this week is on Saturday, when Mars in Aries is square the nodal
axis. This aspect activates both ends of the polarity represented by the
North Node in Cancer -- which draws us into our hearts -- and the South
Node in Capricorn -- which reveals where
we have become too crystallized, fearful, and controlling. We will be working with those polarities throughout the week.
Here's
a list, taken from my webinar, that shows the tendencies we are moving
away from (South Node in Capricorn, on the left), and the evolutionary
growth we are being called to make (North Node in Cancer, on the right).
I hope you will find it helpful as a way of naming both where you might
be stuck, and where you can move:
- Controlling (Fearful) ... Trusting
- Selfish ... Emotionally generous
- Materialistic ... Heart-centered
- Suppressive ... Expressive
- Unsympathetic ... Empathetic
- Rigid ... Creative, intuitive
- Pessimistic ... Inspirational
- Suspicious ... Appreciative
IF YOU WOULD LIKE

months of 2019, the replay and materials from my recent webinar on
January-June 2019 are available for purchase. For more information,

IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK: You
will have opportunities in the year ahead to expand, to take risks, and
to move beyond limitations. Jupiter is in sextile aspect to your Sun
throughout this year, encouraging you to stretch beyond your
previous perceptions of what is possible. As in all opportunities, you
are not compelled to explore the unknown -- but if you make the choice
to step out of your comfort zone, there should be benefits that you
might not fully see at first. Be open to the adventure!
In Gratitude and Light,
