IT'S THANKSGIVING WEEK
in the United States. The timing is appropriate astrologically, since the Sun always enters Sagittarius right before the holiday, and Sag is known for a generally more positive outlook than many of the other signs of the zodiac.

Every year, starting around November 21, we have four weeks of the Sun in Sagittarius, supporting greater idealism, good humor, and generosity. Then, right before Christmas, the Sun enters serious-minded Capricorn and we start to feel the pressure of seasonal and year-end obligations.

Funny how that works, year after year, even when we promise ourselves that we will schedule less and relax more! Somehow that Capricorn busy-ness just seems to become part of the air that we breathe in late December.

WE ARE GETTING a bit of a preview of that more serious side of the holiday season this week, in spite of yesterday's New Moon being in Sagittarius. The underlying theme comes from the Pluto-Saturn semisquare this Thursday, like a persistent drumbeat beneath the other tunes being played during the week.

When Pluto and Saturn form a challenging aspect, as they are this week, we can feel the restrictions of our lives as being heavier than usual, at the same time that the inner urge to transform and change the status quo is heightened. The challenge is to learn a new level of maturity that can cope with situations that are outside of our conscious control, without becoming overwhelmed or derailed.

The gift of the meeting challenge is greater self-respect, and a knowing that we are capable of managing all aspects of our lives, not just when everything is going according to how we wish it would go.

THAT FEELING of heaviness, if we're not already aware of it, is likely to start building on Tuesday, when Saturn and Mercury align in Scorpio. This could be a good time to look more seriously at important issues, especially with regard to finding out our deeper motivations and desires for the future.

This combination can tend to be pessimistic, however, so it's important not to let fears or doubts over-run the positive potentials of this alignment. Instead, try to use the energies to do some soul-searching, to analyze the emotions that have arisen, and to set a plan into place that will move you beyond where you're feeling stuck.

WEDNESDAY looks like it provides some breaks in the heavy cloud cover, with a Uranus-Venus trine bringing opportunities for interesting new activities and interactions. And, the Venus-Ceres alignment in Sagittarius can strengthen our belief in the greater meaning of our lives, and encourages us to take care of ourselves and others as a part of fulfilling our sense of higher purpose.

The Neptune-Sun square on Wednesday may also provide some relief. Usually, we might curse the lack of initiative that can accompany this transit -- but with the heavy Saturn-Pluto energies so strong, a little bit of fogginess may be just what we need to let go and realize we don't have to have everything figured out and in control.

ON THURSDAY, after the Pluto-Saturn energy has peaked (at 8:46am PST), the heavy feeling should slowly start to lighten -- especially once Mercury enters Sagittarius (at 6:25pm PST). It will take a few days for that heaviness to fully dissipate, but with the Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Ceres all in Sag by the weekend, our good humor and ability to take life more lightly is more supported.

Neptune steps in again on Sunday, this time with a square aspect to Mercury. A lack of mental clarity and initiative may rule the day once again -- but I, for one, could use a day sitting by the woodstove, gazing idly into the fire while I sip my tea, and letting the world go by...

IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE that in just a month, we'll be starting 2015 -- which means that my January 8 teleclass is just six weeks away! I'll include a full description of the class below, or you can just click here to register:

At the Door of a New Age

Your astrology guide for January to June 2015

A 90-minute teleclass with Astrologer Pam Younghans and Wellness Educator Elsie Kerns

Thursday, January 8, 2015
Live broadcast: 4pm PST | 5pm MST | 6pm CST | 7pm EST
Also available by download after class airs | Fee: $25

THE FIRST 6 MONTHS OF 2015 hold enormous potential for spiritual growth and creative change, as the planets challenge each of us to make a quantum leap in some area of our lives.

We’ve been working with the transformative energies of the ongoing Pluto-Uranus square for 3 years now. By the end of 2014, we will have experienced the exact aspect 6 times. But in each of those exact aspects, either Pluto or Uranus has been retrograde, leaving us to balance the need to resolve issues from the past with a strong desire to leap into the future.

March 16, 2015 is the date of the 7th and final exact square between Pluto and Uranus – and on that date, both planets will be in forward motion. In other words, it’s all systems go, full speed ahead!

In this 90-minute teleclass, I’ll explain more about what this final Pluto-Uranus square means, and how it relates to the title of the class, “At the Door of a New Age.” I’ll also talk about other exciting and potentially life-changing events in the first 6 months of 2015:

  • The highly-energized line-up of planets in mid-March, which sees Mars aligning with Uranus and both planets trine Jupiter, right before the final Pluto-Uranus square – and just days before an eclipse and the solstice
  • The Total Solar Eclipse on March 20 in the very last degree of the zodiac (29 degrees of Pisces), indicating a time of completion and the need to release old definitions of spirituality
  • The Total Lunar Eclipse on April 4 that activates more events related to the Pluto-Uranus-Mars-Jupiter line-up in March
  • The first months of Saturn’s transit through Sagittarius, and its return to Scorpio on June 14

I’ll also cover the significance of the New and Full Moons for each month, as well as Mercury’s retrograde phases, and other highlights of the first half of 2015. As before, the slideshow will include monthly calendars showing the most important planetary aspects.

I hope you can join us, either "live" as the class airs, or by download afterward!
