Aspects of Note This Week
All times listed are Pacific Daylight Time. For Greenwich Mean Time, add 7 hours.
MON: Venus square Ceres
WED: Venus sesquiquadrate Pluto
THU: Sun square Neptune, Venus sextile Chiron
SAT: Mars conjunct Neptune
SUN: Pluto square Eris, Sun semisquare Uranus, Sun quincunx Pluto
THE SPACE OF TIME in between eclipses always feels a bit other-worldly – and with three eclipses on the calendar in June-July, this enhanced awareness of other realms and dimensions will last for the
next four weeks at least.
During
this time, we may need more rest than usual. Eclipses cause significant
shifts in the Earth's energy field, which means our physical, mental,
and emotional bodies are also shifting. The process of adapting to the
new frequencies is tiring work, whether or not we're not consciously
aware that we are thus engaged. And, we are likely to be especially
tired and drawn inward while
the Moon is waning, now through the Solar Eclipse on June 21.
Adding
to our sense of life being somewhat dreamy or surreal, Neptune's
mystical influence is heightened throughout the month of June. This is
because the planet is moving more and more slowly as it prepares to go
retrograde, imprinting its energies more fully with every step. Neptune
will eventually come to a standstill on June 22, and then slowly begin
to retrace its recent
path through Pisces.
VENUS ASPECTS begin
our journey this week, bringing forward issues related to love and
friendship, alliances and partnerships, finances and material holdings,
and creative or artistic activities. Since Venus is currently
retrograde, we are in review mode with regard to these themes, looking
to the past for answers and resolution.
Here's a brief overview of this week's Venus aspects as they might impact relationship issues:
- On
Monday, a Venus-Ceres square draws our attention to any conflict
between fulfilling personal self-care needs and our desire to be
sensitive to the needs of loved ones. Since Ceres is the Earth Mother
goddess, we may be reviewing the role modeling provided by a maternal
figure in our childhood, and whether that person set the example of a
healthy balance between caring for self
and caring for family. We may also sense into how that early role model
has impacted how we move through current relationships.
- On
Wednesday, a Venus-Pluto sesquiquadrate brings up resentments that we
may still be holding onto from the past. We may also deal with
current-day jealousies and manipulations. Pluto always provides an
opportunity for us to reveal, investigate, and then purge emotional and
psychic residue.
- On
Thursday, a Venus-Chiron trine provides a bridge of healing between
friends, lovers, and allies. Communication flows more easily than
before, and we feel more confident in our ability to express our truth,
while also being willing to listen to another's opinions.
WE SENSE Neptune's
hand on our shoulder in the last half of this coming week, starting
on Thursday, when the Gemini Sun squares Neptune. While this aspect can
increase our compassion, we
may be overly sensitive, both emotionally and psychically.
Boundaries blur, and we easily pick up on others' thoughts and feelings,
perhaps causing us to wonder what we really think and feel.
Another
side of a Neptune square occurs through disillusionment, when an ideal
or hope is disappointed. All of these challenges can tempt us to
withdraw from reality, to choose instead to numb our minds
through escapist or addictive activities.
But,
a square is a challenge for us to grow. Can we be objective about our
circumstances without becoming disillusioned? And can we open our hearts
without taking on the pain that others feel? Can we use our minds to
sort out fact from fiction? Can we maintain a spiritually-aware
perspective while also seeing the truth of a situation?
ON SATURDAY,
Neptune is again on the aspects list, when the god of universal oneness
aligns with Mars, the god of war. Odd bedfellows? Definitely. But there
are many positive potentials we can find in this conjunction.
When these two planets join their energies, we are supported in turning "swords into plowshares and spears into pruning hooks." In concrete terms, Mars can inspire Neptune into action, making us more likely to behave
compassionately. In return, Neptune can instruct Mars to take action only when supported by intuition or higher guidance.
There
are potential shadow sides to this conjunction, however. We must guard
against taking on the role of victim or martyr. Instead, we can choose
to align our actions with the highest definition of unconditional love – the ability to stay in our hearts and to hold the energy of love under all conditions.
THIS HIGHER FOCUS will
be needed next weekend. On Sunday, a powerful energy is released when
the Pluto-Eris square perfects. This is the second of five times this
aspect is exact to the degree, with the first occurring on January 26,
2020 and the last occurring on October 9,
2021.
Eris
is the goddess of discord. According to mythic tales, she is undeniably
self-oriented, taking action based on her own selfish needs, without
consideration for how those actions might affect others. Pluto is the
god of the underworld, who reveals and transmutes that which is no
longer viable.
As
these two dwarf planets form a square aspect, we are challenged to
confront self-oriented behaviors, to become aware of and transmute an
unenlightened self-absorption that has no place in a climate of Oneness.
Since both Pluto and Eris have forcefulness in their natures, we can
imagine that next weekend will be quite unsettled, and that we will need
to consciously call upon the positive attributes of the
Mars-Neptune alignment to guide us.
ASTROLOGER
Steven Forrest believes that the Pluto-Eris square is the energy behind
the COVID-19 pandemic, and he gives eloquent support for that theory.
His article on the Pluto-Eris square says in part:
"The
essential underlying evolutionary purpose of the [Pluto-Eris]
configuration is the realization that selfishness – both in individuals
and in nations – has just collided with its own end game. The myth of the rugged, independent individual separate from everyone else has finally hit the wall. As we have seen, we are all in this
together. Denying that reality simply no longer works in a practical
way for anyone. Anyone who does deny it is more likely to get sick.
Even money can’t keep anyone safe. Our anger with each other, our
divisions, our brutal competitiveness, our sense that national
boundaries reflect some immutable law of nature – all of that is
collapsing right now before our eyes."
