Guardian Angels And Articles Of Faith: August's Virgo New Moon
Angels
around us, angels beside us, angels within us. Angels are watching over
you when times are good or stressed. Their wings wrap gently around
you, whispering you are loved and blessed. Angel blessing
There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle. Albert Einstein
I’m aware that people I have loved and have died and are in the spirit world look after me. Diana Princess of Wales
Make friends with the angels, who though invisible are always with you… Often invoke them, constantly praise them, and make good use of their help and assistance in all your temporal and spiritual affairs. Saint Francis de Sales
We forget to pray for the Angels and the Angels forget to pray for us. Leonard Cohen
We are like children, who stand in need of masters to enlighten us and direct us; and God has provided for this, by appointing his angels to be our teachers and guides. Saint Thomas Aquinas
August's Virgo new Moon occurs on August 25 in the United States and August 26 in Australia. This is a very interesting new Moon in that it contains strong Saturnian and Neptunian energies. These two planets represent very different energies and this could have a lot of people feeling rather torn. On the one hand, Neptune in Pisces opposite the new Moon in Virgo can bring up visions, dreams, the desire to love and be loved, to be held, to feel safe, to be able to pursue dreams, and it can also bring up issues to do with boundaries, what one will or won't have in life, what is and what isn't acceptable, and perhaps, that old Neptunian nugget, codependent relationships and knowing when to balance the scales on giving and receiving.

On the other hand, Saturn is conjunct (together with) Mars, in Scorpio,
a difficult combination of energies of stop-go-stop, do-don't-do and
brick walls thrown up right in the middle of the feeling of the need for
a great push forward. Venus is in Leo, squaring both Mars and Saturn.
This will have relationships of all kinds under the microscope and some
will dry-up, shrivel and end while others can flourish with the
knowledge that certain people are there with you, ready for the
difficult times along with the good times.
In case you're wondering, I did not write up the last full Moon newsletter - I was busy with other things and it was the third newsletter in something like fourteen years that I haven't written. This last full Moon had hectic Saturnian energies - there was a t-square from the Sun and Moon to Saturn and it was very close. I thought "oh well, Saturn is there, I'm busy with other things - I will do the new Moon newsletter and that will be far more promising, or 'easy' in its energies. Then, I cast the chart for this new Moon and I saw the immense presence of Saturn, this time interacting closely with Mars and Venus in a stressful aspect. Ha, Saturn to the left, Saturn to the right and here we are, stuck in the middle with this enormously Saturnian energy. :)
The Sabian Symbol for this new Moon is Virgo 3: Two Guardian Angels Bringing Protection - the following is from my book The Sabian Oracle: 360 Degrees Of Wisdom.
‘Two Guardian Angels Bringing Protection’ is a beautiful Symbol that brings to mind images of salvation, release and protection. Being there for us, ‘Guardian Angels’ are believed to look out for our best interests, especially when we most need them. This is particularly true when we feel we are about to stumble or fall in some way. Our ‘Guardian Angels’ are with us even if we don’t have a conscious awareness of their existence or presence, although if we do consciously evoke them, they are likely to be more “present” or obvious to us, in whatever form.
This Symbol reminds us that no matter what we do, where we are, how difficult our struggles or how successful our activities, our ‘Angels’ are always with us. ‘Guardian Angels’ appear in many forms – as strangers, friends, family members, events, etc. They can come to us in moments of deep despair, when all seems lost and we feel abandoned and alone. Their messages and actions can signal a turning point, a feeling that life is well worth the struggles and torments we have to sometimes endure. With this Symbol, there is reassurance that you are not alone, lost or forgotten in a situation, at least not for very long. There is a strong sense that protection, guidance and direction are around.
Hold a feeling close to your mind and heart; the belief that invisible, or visible, help is coming. This will ensure that help and relief will, indeed, become available. Remember that friends and family can often help, especially in the role of acting as sounding boards or counselors. Once things are back on track, it is likely you will find the true path that you must follow. Feeling good about your direction and being protected builds a sense of your inner strength. You are never alone with this Symbol around. Open up to the ‘Protection’ being offered to you, don’t resist it.
Keywords: Connection with a sense of inner guidance. Visible or invisible protection. People appearing when they’re needed. Being saved in the nick of time. Creative solutions to problems that seemed hopeless and lost. Counseling and guidance. Angels. Security systems. Salvation. Social workers.
The Caution: Feeling lost and alone without help. Losing faith in the goodness of life. Expecting that fate, or others, will pick up the pieces without needing to put in the effort. Resisting help in order to hang onto your “wounds”. Too much reliance on outside forces. Not acting to change things. Victim status.
The Karmic Condition (the degree before) of this new Moon is Virgo 2: A Large White Cross, Dominating The Landscape, Stands Alone On The Top Of A High Hill. The feeling of religious ideals dominating the landscape can be very strong, particularly as this degree is so highlighted, along with Neptune on Pisces 7: Illuminated By A Shaft Of Light, A Large White Cross Lies On Rocks Surrounded By Sea And Mist - we have two major Symbols of The Cross showing up now - whether it's Christianity and all that's happening with the Church, or all the talk of religious fundamentalism in any faith, many may feel that religious ideals are dominating our 'landscape'.
Feelings of loneliness or loss can be healed with signs of hope and faith for a brighter future. A religious experience can change ones life and lead to spiritual fulfillment and the highest sense of joy. However, these experiences can also lead to throwing ones life away. This can be caused by too much emphasis on spiritual and “other worldly” values, which can lead people to lose their day-to-day lives. Some may feel that they are being treated like a scapegoat, being “hung out to dry”, punished for doing something or being different or special in some way. Instead of having a “cross to bear”, we can work at realigning ourselves with our true desires and allegiances. We can ground our selves and our lives by creating a balanced set of circumstances in our life: money, relationships, family, career, etc. This can also lead to a stronger sense of purpose and spirituality, dissipating feelings of sacrifice, separation or loneliness.
Keywords: Religious ideals dominating. The fear or the wonder of God. Following a mystic Path. The need to find a savior. Being alone and forgotten. Monuments to pain and suffering. Tributes to or memories of those lost or gone before. Reminders of salvation. Images of redemption. The Church. Christianity and other religions. Martyrdom. The Inquisition.
The Caution: Aloneness and/or sacrifice or the yearning for it. Dogmatism. Scapegoating. Days in the wilderness alone. Religion dictating against one’s desires or needs. Symbols that inspire guilt and anguish instead of love, acceptance and forgiveness. Institutions disregarding individual rights. Lording it over others. Bullying under the guise of religion. Imposing figures.
The Quest Degree (the degree after) this new Moon is Virgo 4: Black And White Children Playing Happily Together. From the scenes we've seen and heard in the media, or in our own lives, we see people at times rejoicing their differences and enjoying each other, or, we see racially charged tensions getting in the way of people being able to relate. Whether it's the recent events in Ferguson, Missouri or the difficulties in Palestine and Israel or what is happening in northern Iraq, etc, etc, we are seeing some pretty harsh realities around the need to see each other as divine beings, living our lives to the best of our abilities.
Keywords: Universal brotherhood. Overcoming prejudices and boundaries that separate people. Knocking down social barriers to relate freely. Being able to let go, relax and have fun with people from anywhere. Adopted siblings. Foster homes. Affirmative action. Trust and joy.
The Caution: Morality that is swayed by public opinion. Not adjusting psychologically to situations that require creative (or different) responses. Racial and social prejudice. Seeing things in black and white terms. Clear demarcations that separate people or situations. Apartheid. Illusions based on the separative perceptions of society.
Mercury, the ruler of this Virgo new Moon, is on Virgo 18: Two Girls Playing With A Ouija Board.
Here, the ‘Two Girls’ shows that there may be a need to share thoughts, explorations, dreams and ideas with another. They are ‘Playing With a Ouija Board’ - there is a desire to contact a deeper wisdom, possibly by the use of some kind of divination tool. You may need some form of assistance to help you focus on any messages that are coming through. This “tool” can be many things; a Ouija board, the Sabian Symbols, the I Ching, the tarot, etc. Wisdom and knowledge may come with time, serious intent and effort. At first, there may be rather youthful and naïve attempts to discover the deeper meaning of events, or, of life. Things may become a little strange; there can be little control over what is coming through from “the other side”. You may have to just sit and observe. Sometimes there’s a need to explore these realms with others, as there may be something somewhat scary about them. What is likely to happen if you leave yourself open and vulnerable? If someone you are in a friendship or partnership with is reluctant to see things from a similar spiritual or esoteric perspective as you, you might find the relationship changing or breaking down. One partner may be more “straight” than the other, one more eager to take a chance and explore. This Symbol can suggest the need to be with, or share some time with, someone who shares the same beliefs and interests in life, and to have the curiosity to find out things that may not be immediately apparent.
Keywords: Immature curiosity leading to messages and inner guidance. Listening devices. Tuning into possible meanings. Ouija boards. Séances. Clairvoyant abilities. Spirits of the departed. Contact with the “other side”. Messages coming through from unknown sources. Spiritualism. Ectoplasm. Concentrated attention. Poltergeists. Haunted houses. Cold energies. Bringing spirit through. Moving furniture. Phenomena. Weird and spooky. Seeing ghosts. Being a channel.
The Caution: Dealing with situations beyond one’s maturity. Looking for information, or confirmation, instead of just getting on with life. Naive playing with potentially dangerous elements. Seeking easy answers to avoid responsibility. Fooling around. Superstitious responses to natural phenomena.
Venus is on Leo 17: A Volunteer Church Choir Makes A Social Event Of A Rehearsal. Venus enjoys being in Leo and there may be a certain need to be seen or rewarded or noticed or just a desire to rise above the crowd. This can be a little difficult if you feel that you are so often giving with not much reward coming back your way - especially with Venus and Mars and Saturn aspecting each other so closely. The need to share one's bounty, time, resources, help, rewards, abilities, etc, with others can meet a brick wall if the flow of give and take is blocked or somehow difficult. We have to know how to receive as well as to give - and vice versa :)
You may feel the need to be with those of like mind, feelings and aspirations. Take the opportunity to share in their expression of spiritual joy and shared faith. Unified voices need to be heard, and can uplift all that hear them. Coming together to contribute to the community without thought of more tangible rewards will bring a sense of belonging and fellowship on many levels. Bringing even the smallest tokens, and gifts, whether it's jars of jam, a helping hand or a listening ear, to the gathering will be appreciated in some way. Helpers may be required to come to the aid of others. There may be a need to test things out to see if they stand up to reality. Whether you receive rewards or are paid for the work you do or not, there may be a need to inject more fun and lightheartedness. Ultimately, if everyone is comfortable and friendly with each other, communication and the quality of work will improve. Even a gesture such as drinks after work can bring people closer together. Overall, everybody should feel happy to be around people of like mind; not pressurized to put in a top-rate performance.
Keywords: Making the most of any situation. Feelings of togetherness that enliven. Rehearsing without worrying about what might happen. Doing things for others without thought of reward. Sharing community. Catching up on what others are doing. Busking and street singing. Learning to open up the throat. Charity work. Volunteers. Sharing food and drink. Small gifts for others. Dedication to ideals. Extending one self by mixing in with others.
The Caution: Trivializing the purpose of gatherings. Being afraid or reticent to lift up one’s voice. Standing in the background because of the belief that one is not “good” enough to join in. Criticizing others for not contributing enough.
Mars and Saturn are conjunct on Scorpio 18: A Quiet Path Through Woods Brilliant In Autumn Colouring. Mars and Saturn together can be quite frustrating, although, with some effort, it can also be rewarding. Great benefits can come from putting in effort, time and expertise, you can build something quite brilliant with this placement of Mars and Saturn. However, often, with this degree, we can feel like a need to escape in some way - a desire to go to the country, to walk down wooded lane ways, perhaps, to sit under a tree, to feel like you've come this far and now need a little bit of a rest. Life can be too demanding, though, and we can feel pressured to have to get up and go do something when we might want to indulge in some things for ourselves, especially if we've been thinking about others rather a lot lately, and, after all, Venus is on Leo 17: The Volunteer Church Choir, squaring this Mars/Saturn conjunction.
Keywords: Rewards of plenty. Transformations through the different seasons of one’s life. Overcoming battles and disappointments, and finding peace. Layers of personality issues flaking off with maturity. Gardens, sometimes off the beaten track. Taking time out to reflect on nature. Walks. The feeling of change in the air. Mature and elegant responses. Warm. Rich colors. Memories and memoirs. Taking life one day at a time. Overcoming loss through positive attitudes.
The Caution: Being too late for the harvest. Concentrating on the past. Being oblivious to nature’s beauty. Resisting the flow of the seasons.
Jupiter is on Leo 9: Glassblowers Shape Beautiful Forms With Their Controlled Breathing. What are you 'breathing life into'? What are you creating? How do you feel about what you've achieved? What expressions of your creativity are you wanting to give form to? Jupiter doesn't have any strong aspects to other planets for the next week or so, so gathering up one's faith and belief in oneself and others could prove to be tricky. Breathing deeply into moments can be key to feeling like you're connecting in an authentic, grounded way.
Keywords: Being able to create beautiful forms out of nothing. Prana. Singing, performing. Buteyko breathing method. Sculpture. Beauty. Breath meditations. Artisans. Rebirthing. Extreme care and detail. Lungs. Respiration = creation and inspiration. Pouring life into creative visions. Smoke rings. Didgeridoos. Smoking and smoking pipes and implements.
The Caution: Failing to take proper care and concentration. Lapses of concentration. Distortions of the truth. Hyperventilation. Lung troubles. Asthma. Smoking too much. Shortness of breath.
Uranus is on Aries 17: Two Prim Spinsters Sitting Together In Silence. Uranus here may bring about the feeling of needing to retreat, to not be so much in relationship as being with people in a way that doesn't need too much work, too much explanation or two much digging around to make things feel good. Really good friendships and relationships can go deeper as each understands the moments of contact as well as the moments of connection.
Keywords: The need to loosen up emotional blockages. The struggle to hold onto one’s original identity. Compromise because of social expectations. Meditations that communicate. Exclusive relationships. Relationships that have a quiet “knowing”. Dignified silence. Inner withdrawal. Communicating through body language.
The Caution: Emotional isolation. Refusing to accept relationship. Pretending to be someone that one is not. Disapproval of younger, more vital energies. Being fussy and judgmental. Chattering that is not conducive to growth or true relating. Gossip. Difficulty in communicating. Being shutoff, or shutdown.
Neptune is on Pisces 7: Illuminated By A Shaft Of Light, A Large White Cross Lies On Rocks Surrounded By Sea And Mist. Here, we have another 'cross' degree... There are two 'crosses' - one is the 'Karmic Condition' of this new Moon on Virgo 2: Virgo 2: A Large White Cross, Dominating The Landscape, Stands Alone On The Top Of A High Hill and, almost directly opposite, Pisces 7. This new Moon has both Symbols - it will be interesting to see what happens in world events around issues of religion or faith, but, also most likely, around issues of yours and mine and property and nationhood, belonging, victim status stuff or people feeling alienated or strange or like strangers.
Keywords: Renewed dedication after loss. Looking for signs of hope and recovery.
Coming to terms with loss or failure. Rocks, mist, howling winds on coasts. Crosses of faith. Important and substantial sacrifices. Being devastated by events. Being in the “spotlight” in difficult times. Finding the way through the dark. The need for sacrifice. Alternative religions. Stepping outside religious boundaries.
The Caution: Lost faith. Hopes dashed. Giving up. Being shattered by the constraints of life. Depression. Feeling like one is being sacrificed, sometimes for nothing. Unable to see through the fog. Scorn, persecution and attack because of religious or social reasons. Hopelessness. Things grim, dark and foreboding.
Pluto is on Capricorn 12: A Student Of Nature, Lecturing On Little Known Aspects Of Nature. What is being taught? What are you teaching/preaching? What messages from nature are coming through? Is there something we should be taking notice of that we aren't, perhaps?
Keywords: Observing what’s around and translating it so others may learn. Green politics. Revealing things and issues the more conservative don't want revealed. Nature and natural remedies. Science and its rewards and drawbacks. Issues such as global warming. Whistle blowers. Natural healing methods. Documentaries.
The Caution: Radical non-humanistic views. Intellectual smugness. ‘Lecturing’ and browbeating. Modern technological advances that stifle the environment. Lip service to conservation issues.
The Moon's Nodes are showing us a thing or two about what's going on. They broadcast and reflect many energies back at us - in relationships, our every day lives, and, often, through sometimes seemingly random events that can lead to great synchronicities and insights. Here, with this combination of the nodes, the signs and the Sabian Symbols, we have a big lesson in embracing peace and rejecting war - rejecting warring. Times have been very tough for so many people and the energies have been pretty heavy and rather foreboding - like a grey cloud hanging in the air. We wonder what is going to happen next. Times are certainly meaningful.
The nodes are showing us the very real need for us to embrace a sense of equilibrium and balance and not to get involved in disputes, quarrels or issues that just lead to problems and disturbances. The north node is seen as showing the things we need to embrace, move towards, get to know, understand, integrate, learn from, etc.
The north node is in Libra - the sign of the ideals of peace and harmony - not war and disharmony - and it's on a rather wonderful Symbol. The Moon's north node is on Libra 21: A Crowd Upon A Beach. Visions of Burning Man come to mind - and it is on this week in the desert.
Keywords: Simple gatherings and sharing in natural values. Watching people swim, run, skip and play. People getting loose and revealing their bodies. Remembering the basic elements of life. Marveling at nature. Getting back to the basics of life. Enjoyment. Relaxing social constraints. Picnic hampers, towels, sunblock. Wanting a tan. Queues and lines. Swimming in the collective unconsciousness.
The Caution: Avoiding close interaction with others. Being just one of many who desire their moment in the Sun. Drowning –with others or alone. Sunburn. Sunstroke. Feeling like just one of the many. Dehydration.
The Moon's south node is on Aries 21: A Boxer Is Entering The Ring. Conversely in energies, we see the place of letting go, retiring or retreating from, integrating the lessons and moving ahead, being willing to leave behind people, places perhaps, memories, all kinds of things, so one can step up to the plate and take charge of their lives. And it is important to take on the challenge of stepping up to the plate, unencumbered by the need to 'battle' or to take on challenges that require arguments, disputes, bickering, feeling subjugated or that one has, perhaps, lost the battle. Aries is the warrior energy, the one who wants to take things on, to shine and be noticed, to have a voice, to stand out from the crowd perhaps. The Moon's south node in Aries contains a message of not letting our tempers get in the way of our day.
Keywords: Physical or psychological self-assertion and determination. Attack or defense? Fighting for emotional, psychological or physical space. Being seen as a person of strength. Throwing punches. Fighting each other on any level. Being prepared to take a swing at someone or something. Stepping up to the plate. Throwing down the gauntlet. Going after the title.
The Caution: Using force or power to dominate people or those who challenge you. Acting in a combative manner when one should be displaying sportsmanship. Wanting to knock people out. Looking for combat. Throwing punches at anything. Belting, smacking, invading. Being punch-drunk.
Chiron is on Pisces 17: An Easter Promenade. Here is another 'religious' degree. What needs resurrecting in your life? What are the wounds or the stories around what's going on in your life? Are you ready to take your place in the world in terms of the lessons you're learning? How are your roles of being both student and teacher? This will be asked of you over the next few weeks.
Keywords: Renewed faith in one’s life’s circumstances. Rising from fear and loss. Public holidays and their celebrations. Dressing up. Easter bonnets. Easter eggs, chickens and the fertility rites of spring. Rebirth. Forgiveness. Joy. Spiritual unity. Religious holidays. Worship. Renewal. Parades.
The Caution: Superficial communal shows of unity. Craving for attention. Always needing an excuse to get together and unite. Empty displays of faith or joy. Doing things only because everyone else is doing them. Feeling lost, alone and forsaken in the crowd. Guilt trips. Exclusion of other faiths. Religious domination.
Well, this is a big new Moon. Just as well we have the Angels with us, eh? Saturn is most certainly asking for his 'pound of flesh' - what are you prepared to throw in, to sacrifice, to work towards, to fore go, to allow into your life finally?
I wish you all a great new Moon - don't forget to ask the angels to show up.

Worship. Renewal. Parades.
