THE PLANET URANUS is known for its unpredictable nature -- when its influence is strong, we are told to "expect the unexpected" and to remain as flexible and open-minded as possible. This advice is our guidance this week, due to Uranus changing direction.

When a planet comes to a standstill and changes direction, we are more aware of its energy and impact in our lives. The analogy I like to use is that it's like standing on the platform when a train pulls into the station -- we feel the vibration building as the train gets closer, and when it is in the station and right in front of us, the sound and the vibration seem to fill our senses. These effects then gradually diminish once the train reverses direction and heads back down the track.

THIS FRIDAY, Uranus will be at a standstill in the station, with its engine still engaged. We've already been feeling some of its effects in the past week, especially around the Full Moon on the 19th. Situations have unexpectedly and suddenly changed, leaving us feeling out of balance and somewhat befuddled. The more adaptable we can be now, the better we will be at managing these sometimes chaotic energies.

The changes that occur under this influence all have a higher intention, of course. One of Uranus' goals is to liberate us from situations that have become too limiting, that are holding us back from the progress we want to make in our lives. Even if it's difficult to let go old forms, when Uranus is at work we are better off acknowledging that on some level, a part of us was ready to move on.

IN ADDITION to being the god of chaos, Uranus is associated with self-awakening and enlightenment. The changes that we accept now are a part of raising our vibration and expanding into higher states of consciousness.

Our mind's ability to embrace the new -- and its discomfort in the face of change -- are both reflected by the aspects involving the planet Mercury this week. On Wednesday, we are open to new insights and to creative solutions to old problems (Mercury trine Uranus), but we must also make some attitude adjustments and trust that we can let go of old mindsets without the world falling apart (Mercury square Chiron).

ON FRIDAY, a Mercury-Mars square in fixed signs indicates the potential for disagreements and arguments if we stubbornly try to coerce others into accepting our ideas. Our egos may take a bit of a hit, so we'll want to look at our true motivations for needing someone else to approve or agree with us.

On Saturday, Mercury enters the sign of Virgo. This placement of the Messenger Planet can help us be more discerning and practical in our assessments -- but it can also bring out our critical side and negative thinking. This may be especially true Saturday evening, when Mercury and Pluto are in hard aspect.

Thankfully, a Venus-Uranus trine helps lighten our load on Sunday. With this aspect, the goddess of love is inclined to be social and is open to new adventures, as long as both the friends and the experiences are lighthearted and don't restrict or confine her free spirit.

IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK: This year calls for you to find a balance between the practical and the spiritual. This requires that you live up to your responsibilities but also that you let go of needing to control every detail. Trust that the outcomes will be for the best of all concerned, even if you are unable to see exactly how it will all work out from your present vantage point. When in doubt, sit calmly and let a feeling of peace guide you. Creative solutions are available -- it just may require an adjustment in how you've perceived the possibilities.

In peace,

Pam
