THE SUN
, Mercury, and Jupiter are all moving through early degrees of Scorpio now, with the Sun exactly conjunct Jupiter at 3°31′ on Thursday of this week. This alignment between Sol and the largest known planet in our solar system means that Scorpionic qualities are especially emphasized now.

Archetypes associated with Scorpio include Truth-Seeker, Psychotherapist, Shaman, Catalyst, Detective, and Hypnotist. Scorpio is known to be passionate, perceptive, determined, and resourceful. However, it can also be possessive, stubborn, resentful, intimidating, power-hungry, and suspicious.

SCORPIO is the only sign of the zodiac that claims two animal symbols: the Scorpion and the Eagle. Through observing these two very different mascots, we clearly see the choice we have when working with the energies of this sign.

The Scorpion primarily demonstrates what we usually consider the "lower" expression of the sign -- the reactivity, the capacity to sting and to kill, and the inability to let go even when it is clearly time to move on. The Eagle epitomizes the highest qualities of Scorpio -- a keen vision and perception, the courage of conviction, strong leadership abilities, and the victory of spiritual immortality over physical death.

These two polarities, being equally contained within the influence of Scorpio, advise us of the powerful potentials we can activate when we are working with the sign. Through using Scorpio's many gifts, we have the capacity to transmute lower-vibrational qualities into those of a higher frequency -- much as an alchemist can magically turn lead into gold -- and the ability to perceive darkness and endings as an invitation to activate the light and be reborn.

OUR OPPORTUNITY this week is to take advantage of the Sun-Jupiter alignment in Scorpio and dive more deeply into the process of transmutation that most of us are already experiencing. We might choose some aspect of our being that resonates with the lower end of the frequency spectrum, and call upon the courage and inner vision of Eagle to help us shift that aspect into its higher vibrational manifestation.

Lao Tzu said, "When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be." As humans, we tend to become comfortable with who we've been, even if we dislike or judge that version of ourselves. The idea of opening to who we might be is often a scary proposition -- but ultimately both liberating and empowering.

WE ARE DEEPLY AWARE of the need for change in the world, and yet -- like the Scorpion hidden beneath a rock -- we can easily feel overwhelmed and agitated when faced with the depth of change required. We can feel small and even helpless in the face of such great need.

And yet, what would Eagle say, observing the same landscape that Scorpion sees as intimidating? Perhaps Eagle would remind us of these words from Jalaluddin Rumi:

"Yesterday I was so clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself."

WE TEND TO THINK that who we are as individuals can't possibly make a big impact on the world, that our daily choices are fairly inconsequential when compared to the BIG decisions being made by governments and those in positions of power. But our individual choices DO make a difference.

This is true on a physical level and on a metaphysical level. As one example of a physical choice, the PETA website tells me that just by choosing to eat a vegan diet, I am saving the lives of 200 animals a year, as well as supporting the Earth and all life through the lower environmental impact of a plant-based diet.

And we now have the evidence from many scientific studies -- most recently, from research done by Dr. Joe Dispenza -- of how the emotions that we hold and the thoughts we think affect the quantum field and therefore the course of our evolution. This area of study would once have been thought of as "metaphysical," but when something can be quantified by scientific studies, the worlds of science and energy work are merging.

IF WE NEED any incentive to make changes in our daily choices of action, feeling, and thought, all we need do is consider how deeply we feel about some issue currently in the news. And then we can ask ourselves: How can I use the energy of Scorpio -- its determination, keen insight, willingness to face the darkness, and capacity for alchemical change -- to empower me this week? How is the evolutionary process waiting for ME to change?

For me, I'm going to remind myself as much as possible of a quote I heard this week. These are words I've heard before, but am grateful to have them refreshed in my awareness:

All we really need to do is ask in every situation, "What would Love do?"

IN KEEPING
with Jupiter's amplifying properties, I've clearly allowed the voice of the Sun-Jupiter alignment to be the loudest in this week's journal! There are, of course, other planetary aspects occurring this week -- but in my opinion, the Sun-Jupiter alignment is the most influential. And, although the aspect perfects on Thursday, it will be in effect throughout the week.

Still, here is a quick list of other influences we'll be working with in the days ahead:

  • Monday: A bit of a knotty day, with misunderstandings and hurt feelings possible, but not a clear path through the problems that arise.
  • Tuesday: A very intuitive and perceptive day, an opportunity to tap into a deeper understanding of our personal and spiritual relationships.
  • Friday: Tension in relationships as some rebel against limitations or feeling too deeply enmeshed.
  • Saturday: A need to balance powerful emotions with practical insight, but potential for seesawing between the two.
  • Sunday: Minor disagreements must be addressed directly to avoid deeper conflicts.
May this transformative week lead us all forward on our highest evolutionary path!

IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK:
This year, you can more easily tap into something greater than yourself. Your passions are awakened and your deeper desires to facilitate change are activated. You can find greater joy and meaning in all of your activities, but especially those that speak to your need to have an impact on the world around you. Listen to the call of your intuition; it will guide you to profound experiences that will greatly enhance your knowing of Self.

In peace,

Pam
