HUMANITY is capable of great light and great darkness. Each of us individually, as a piece of the whole, also chooses moment by moment whether to vibrate at the higher end of the frequency scale or at the lower. When the Moon is full, we often have a stronger awareness of both ends of the spectrum, both internally and externally.

Our Full Moon this week, occurring with the Sun in Scorpio and the Moon in Taurus, calls us to consider what we most value and to choose our vibrational standard based on that appraisal. It also requires that we be willing to change, if needed, in order to better align with our values. This can mean releasing our grasp on the familiar and letting go of certain attachments -- a challenge for both Scorpio and Taurus, since they are fixed signs and known for being retentive.

THE LUNATION occurs at 10:22 p.m. PDT on Friday (at 5:22 a.m. GMT on Saturday). The Moon will be at 11°58′ Taurus as it comes into fullness, and is aligned with the fixed star Achird in the constellation Cassiopeia. In his book The Magic of the Stars, astrologer Rodrick Kidston reveals that:

"With Achird, you need to be genuine. This star goads from within, whether it's about passion, or desire, or ambition, or at best, high idealism. Once you get your act together, and your deeds align with your words, you are formidable and have a great chance of enjoying success. What you believe, you believe with a whole heart and mind, so you want to be on the side of the angels here."

FOR MORE CLUES to the effects of this Full Moon, we can look to Venus, the planetary ruler of Taurus. The goddess of love is feeling the pressure on the day of the lunation, being in hard aspect to Uranus, Eris, Chiron, and Neptune.

The Venus-Uranus opposition, exact on the day of the Full Moon, is a sure sign that it's time for breakthroughs and breakdowns. If we are holding onto something that is restrictive, simply because it is familiar, this could be the time when we finally have the courage and determination to purge ourselves of the attachment. And if our mouths been saying "Yes" while our gut has been saying "No," we have the opportunity to make new, healthier choices.

If we're ready to release a current form to allow a better one to take its place, this lunation is the perfect time for cord-cutting meditations and other rituals that help us let go of the past and move on.

THE THIRD Saturn-Chiron square perfects on Thursday of this week, activating the final energy wave in this year-long challenge. (The aspect has been in effect since last November, with dates of exactitude on December 28, 2016, and April 30, 2017.)

For a visual of the effects of this square, imagine the captain at the helm of a ship, having planned to experience a great adventure of exploration and discovery (Saturn in Sagittarius). Chiron in Pisces is the turbulent oceans, at times appearing to be creating "the perfect storm" that will succeed in capsizing the ship and sending all aboard into the deep.

I'VE NEVER SEEN the movie "The Perfect Storm," so have no idea of the plot beyond the impressive ocean waves that appear in the trailers -- but for our purposes, let's leave behind any energy imprints that film may have made on our psyches, and focus simply on the purposes behind this Saturn-Chiron aspect.

The aspect itself is a square, indicating obstacles that stand in the way of a goal. Those obstacles have manifested to encourage us to face the negative traits represented by each of the signs and planets involved.

With Saturn in Sagittarius, some of those less-admirable traits include self-righteousness, intolerance, prejudice, impatience, and tactlessness. And, with Chiron in Pisces, we've also been working to overcome patterns of victimization, escapism, avoidance, apathy, over-idealism, and over-sensitivity.

In essence, this square has been challenging us each to take responsibility for our own intolerance and judgmental tendencies, and to replace them with compassion, acceptance, and understanding. As we acknowledge how we contribute, even in small ways, to the mass consciousness that fears and resists, that builds walls both physically and emotionally against others, we gain the wisdom that is one of the hoped-for outcomes of successfully facing this divinely-crafted challenge.

ON THE OTHER SIDE of this square, if we have grown in all the ways Saturn requires, Chiron offers us the opportunity to heal the lack of faith that has resulted in so much angst and disillusionment in the face of conditions that are outside of our control. As we heal, we strengthen our commitment to living life guided by our spiritual values and beliefs.

This square asks us: Do we really believe in a benevolent universe? Do we conceive of this life as random occurrences, or as an organized process designed to help us evolve? Is there a positive purpose at work in our existence?

IF WE BELIEVE in any universal force -- whether it be simply an "intelligence" or something more anthromorphized -- how do we want that belief to inform our daily attitudes and actions?

New science tells us that the brain in our hearts is actually more powerful than the brain in our heads. According to the HeartMath Institute, "the heart sends more information to the brain than the brain sends to the heart."

If we really have been created "in the likeness," we can therefore assume that the creative power behind our physical manifestation also has -- and is primarily guided by -- a "heart." And, one of the main goals of this central organ is to bring its "body" (manifested reality) into a more coherent state.

This Saturn-Chiron square has been testing our ability to stay positive and to have faith during times of great stress and uncertainty. This week we have the final exam after a year of ongoing classes and workshops.

It's never too late to study! Time to hit the books?

IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK: Your journey this year involves a shift of perspective. If you have defined your well-being by your reaction to outer events, you are being challenged to come back to center within yourself, to find your inner light and strengthen it so that it shines out into what you perceive as darkness. This does not occur through force of will -- how does one force light? -- but through expanding and radiating the light within. Your rewards for this work are manyfold, improving every area of your life as you let go of needing to control and learn to trust the evolutionary process underway.

In peace,

Pam
