Your guide to planetary energies for May 11 to 17, 2015
By Pam Younghans

Highlighted Aspects this Week:
MON: Sun sextile Chiron, Mars enters Gemini; TUE: Sun quintile Neptune, Mars sesquisquare Pluto; WED: Chiron conjunct Vesta; THU: Mars opposite Saturn; FRI: Mars quintile Jupiter, Mars quintile Chiron; SAT: Venus square North/South Nodes, Venus trine Neptune, Jupiter conjunct Juno; SUN: Mars semisquare Uranus, New Moon 9:13 p.m. PDT

THE SUN provided us with a high-magnitude X-2 class solar flare over this past week (on Tuesday, May 5). Even though the resulting CME (coronal mass ejection) was not Earth-directed, the flare did cause a short-term radio blackout over part of our planet, and also released a beam of electrons that created a "radio burst." Spaceweather.com says that this short period of radio static occurs when "electrons slice through the sun's atmosphere, generating a ripple of radio-loud plasma waves."

Since we are also electromagnetic, it makes sense that these solar events would have also affected us in various ways -- some subtle, some less so. Most of us can probably look at last week and find evidence of burst of static that threw us off course a bit. We may even have temporarily felt disconnected from our source of energy and information, our own personal version of a radio blackout.

My version of this "blackout" included the loss of my email server for a few days, ending with a complete wipe-out of the contents of my inbox. If you've tried to email me recently and been unsuccessful, or if you've been waiting for a response from me that has not arrived, please email me again! I'm finally reconnected and hopefully will not have any more email issues.

Looking forward now ...

MARS ENTERS GEMINI on Monday at 7:40 p.m. PDT, for a six-week transit of the sign of the Twins. Mars represents how we assert ourselves, what we desire, and how we are motivated into action. With Mars in interactive Gemini, we can anticipate that people will be more forthright and direct in their communications, perhaps not pausing to consider the effects of their words (or emails) before hitting the "send" button.

If we can remember to think before we speak, this Mars-in-Gemini time can be very supportive for getting things done that require mental effort and courageous resourcefulness. The only other drawback is that Gemini may have so many good ideas that it will be hard to focus on just one.

THE MARS-SATURN OPPOSITION on Thursday will be a reality check, helping us see which of our plans and ideas are viable. With Saturn in Sagittarius and retrograde, we'll want to use this aspect to help us get clearer on our long-term goals. We'll also have the opportunity to see where we need to bring our thinking (Gemini) into alignment with our ideals (Sagittarius)

And, keep in mind that Mercury goes retrograde next Monday, so we may want to take care of important planning and decision-making before that date. Or, we can plan to allow ourselves a review period from May 18 to June 11, when Mercury goes direct, before signing on the dotted line.

THE PLANETS ASSIST our efforts this coming week with an exceptional number of "quintile" aspects in effect. A quintile occurs when planets are 72 degrees apart. According to astrologer Bil Tierney, in his book Dynamics of Aspect Analysis, quintiles are "linked with a pronounced tendency to be very one-pointed and intensely driven in a specialized field of activity."

With those tendencies also supported by Mars in Gemini, this could be a very productive week -- but it might not necessarily a time when we do a good job of balancing our lives, since our attention is likely to be absorbed by whatever is within that "specialized field of activity." Still, single-minded attention to a specific activity can be valuable in many ways, especially if there is a positive intention to that activity.

ON WEDNESDAY, Chiron is conjunct the asteroid Vesta in Pisces. This alignment is a powerful opportunity for us to make a new -- or renewed -- commitment to our path of healing and spiritual development.

Chiron in Pisces helps us be aware of where we are living in fear instead of in faith, and Vesta in Pisces represents our ability to dedicate ourselves to a spiritual value. As these two planetary bodies come together, we can choose to release and heal an old fear, and to re-ignite the flames of faith that support us from within.

OUR TAURUS NEW MOON occurs on Sunday, May 17, at 9:13 p.m. Taurus is known for being a very practical, grounded sign, and so this new lunar cycle supports us in creating practical forms that support our lives in tangible ways.

However, the planetary ruler of Taurus, Venus, is trine Neptune in the New Moon chart. This aspect adds a spiritual/creative element to the energy we'll be working with over the next couple of weeks. It also reminds us that in addition to being practical, Taurus loves beauty and serenity. During this month ahead, we are especially replenished by experiences that call forth these feelings.

WE HAVE A DATE! My next teleclass, entitled "Charting a New Course," will be aired on Thursday, June 18. This class will cover the remainder of 2015, and include a month-by-month review of important astrological events we will be working with over that time.

As always, you can either attend the class "live" (either by phone or online), or you can register to receive the recording and slideshow after the event has aired.

I'll include more description in next week's journal, but if you'd like to learn more or are ready to sign up, please visit: http://pamjune2015.eventbrite.com
