THE PLANETS support
us in making progress on seemingly mundane projects as October gets
underway. The key word here is "seemingly," because as we complete these
minor tasks or establish a new routine, we find that our actions are
actually vital steps toward the achievement of more expansive goals.
Both Venus and Mars in conscientious Virgo are in positive trine aspect
to Pluto in ambitious Capricorn, encouraging us to put our heart and our
will to work on the small details that will ultimately enable our
greater success.
At the same time, a Mercury-Vesta conjunction in Libra activates our commitment to bringing harmony and justice into the world. This influence also helps us focus our minds and work collaboratively with others.
As these planets work with us Sunday through Wednesday of this week, even small efforts in the direction of improvement can reap great rewards. With our higher intentions held firmly in mind, we are met more than halfway by the support of the universe.
THE MORE UNSETTLING influences occur in the last half of the week, starting with a transformational Full Moon that perfects on Thursday at 11:40 a.m. PDT (6:40 p.m. GMT). Full Moons are always times of heightened emotions, and this one has the potential of being particularly unstable, due to Pluto's involvement.
At the time of the lunation, the Moon is at 13 degrees of Aries, opposite the Sun and Mercury in Libra. All three of these planets are 90 degrees away from Pluto in Capricorn, forming a configuration called a cardinal t-square.
According to astrologer Bil Tierney, my favorite resource for explaining astrological configurations, a t-square such as this with cathartic Pluto at the apex is potentially powerful in its effects:
"We are more likely to find ourselves embroiled in active confrontation now. We almost defiantly reject the assistance and support of others when directly pursuing our immediate objectives, usually due to a fear that they will try to take control over these matters. Life forces us to undergo explosive endings of one phase of our personal development in order to make fresh starts in another phase."
OTHER METHODS of interpreting the Full Moon echo the Plutonian themes invoked by the t-square. The all-telling keywords for the degree of the lunation are "Adolescent Frustration." The Sabian symbol reads:
"An unexploded bomb reveals an unsuccessful social protest: An immature evaluation of the possibility of transforming suddenly the status quo."
Just to put our minds at rest, please note that the bomb is "unexploded"! And, Dane Rudhyar's interpretation of the symbolic image reveals more to help us find purposes underlying the chaos:
"The symbol pictures the result of a particular attempt to resolve the conflict between two concept-feelings of order. Resolution by violence fails because the ego-power is far too strong ... The attempts at revolution are premature expressions of a consciousness which is not free, but can only react wildly to constraint and to a central ruling power."
My main take-away from this Sabian symbol and its interpretation is that this Full Moon requires us to be more mature and less reactive in our responses to life conditions -- especially in our efforts to rebel against the "powers that be" in the world.
YET ONE MORE INDICATOR confirms the dynamic nature of this week's Full Moon: The Moon is at the same degree as the fixed star Alderamin, which vibrates as ambitious and high-achieving.
Here's what Roderick Kidston says about Alderamin:
"This is a star for leaders, for those with the imagination, presence and confidence to bring others along with them. Unskillfully expressed, there can be issues with arrogance or disregard for others.
"Alderamin is perhaps above all a star for seekers, anyone aflame with the deep soul urge to understand and strengthen the body, mind and spirit. This star can take you on great journeys, either literally or physically, or by way of study or contemplation or meditation, or even some mix of all of these. With this star, one way or another you are indeed 'on fire.' You are committed to your quest for meaning and the fulfillment of whatever vision for life you have kindled in your heart. Just remember to use your strength wisely and benignly. The fires of anger and aggression can burn out of control and destroy, but the fire of a strong and loving heart is a force for true creation. The creative powers of Alderamin at its best are very fine indeed."
This is another clear reminder of the importance of calling upon our deeper wisdom in all matters around the time of this Full Moon event.
ALSO OF SIGNIFICANCE this week is the Uranus-Neptune semisquare that perfects on Saturday. This is a longer-term influence, so its effects are not confined to this week by any means -- but it is interesting to have the exact aspect occurring just two days after our forceful Full Moon.
This aspect refers us back to the early 1990s, when Uranus and Neptune were aligned at 19 degrees Capricorn and began their new synodic cycle. Those years, and most notably 1993, marked a time of substantial personal and spiritual growth -- perhaps as a result of unexpected changes and disillusionment.
Now, as these two transpersonal planets form the first challenging aspect of their new cycle, we are asking ourselves sometimes-uncomfortable questions about how our spiritual understanding, consciousness, and individuality have developed or faltered over the last 25 years.
As we find answers to these questions, we can use the energy of this current Uranus-Neptune aspect to help us move beyond the places where we've been feeling stuck. Uranus helps us be so impatient with the status quo that we're willing to take risks to make things better; Neptune assists us in having faith and compassion, qualities that enable us to let go of and forgive the past, while opening our hearts to a better future.
IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK: The balance between self and other is key to your success this year, Libra. Tendencies to say "yes" when you mean "no" will only result in relationship problems in the long run. This is your opportunity to be more assertive with your needs, while at the same time knowing how to communicate those needs from a place of calm. If there are areas in which you've given away a great deal of your power, you are likely to be more reactive this year, until you develop the inner strength and wisdom that enable you to be true to yourself while also being in loving relationship with others.
