THIS IS A VERY COMPLEX TIME.
We are working with the complicated challenges provided by a "t-square" configuration involving Neptune, Saturn, and Jupiter. This influence is in effect from mid May to late June, but is strengthened this coming week through these "triggers": the Moon's alignment with Saturn today (Sunday, May 22), the exact Jupiter-Saturn square on Thursday, and the Moon-Neptune alignment next Sunday, May 29.

In addition, Saturn is currently aligned with a space anomaly called the Great Attractor (GA), located in the middle degrees of Sagittarius. The GA was given its title and has gained fame because our galaxy and other nearby galaxies are being magnetically pulled in its direction.

Astronomers have not yet been able to fully define the GA and cannot explain why it is able to affect such large entities as entire galaxies. But, given that astrology deals with symbology, we actually can use that mystery and our knowing of the GA's magnetic effect on galaxies as we seek to understand how the Saturn alignment is affecting us.

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN wrote that "In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes." I would alter that now-familiar adage to say that the greatest and most constant certainty in our reality -- and perhaps any reality -- is the force of evolution. We are continually drawn forward, through change and sometimes kicking and screaming, to new versions of ourselves.

To me, this is what the GA represents. All forms of life, from the tiniest microorganisms to the largest galaxies, are evolving, being magnetically pulled into new expression. This is the effect of the GA -- that inexorable and mysterious force that continually invites all life to progress and transform.

SATURN'S EFFECT is to bring something into form, to make it concrete so that we can work with it in this physical reality. As Saturn aligns with the GA, we see manifestations of the ongoing movement of our lives. We are aware that we cannot avoid the shifts underway, and must assume that as important events occur, they are drawing us into the next phase of our karmic destiny.

Because Saturn and the GA are in Sagittarius, this evolution involves being open to new ideas and being willing to broaden our understanding of how the universe works. We must let go of rigid beliefs, question old dogmas and biases, and be willing to explore visions of a greater Truth and Higher Meaning.

Saturn first aligned with the GA from mid January to mid February of this year. The alignment is again in effect throughout May and into early June. It will repeat mid October to mid November.

THE T-SQUARE described earlier is of course working with all of us, but is having most direct effect for anyone whose astrological birth chart has planets or points in the middle degrees of the mutable signs -- Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces.

Echoing the effects of the Saturn-GA alignment, this t-square is compelling us to challenge existing beliefs, to open our minds and hearts to a higher understanding of this life experience. At the same time, we cannot lose ourselves in this expansive perspective and avoid the requirements of living in physical reality. It is a time to understand the relationship and importance of both physical and nonphysical, the practical and the spiritual, and the concepts of "doing" and "being."

THE THREE PLANETS involved in the t-square are in mutable signs, which makes this configuration challenging to our nervous systems and thinking processes. Just the very act of expanding our beliefs to include concepts we once thought impossible or overwhelming can be draining.

At the same time, we may feel drawn to new areas of study now, especially if they expand our understanding of life's meaning. We'll want to make sure we don't overextend by taking on too much information or spreading ourselves too thin -- doing so can result in a need to completely detach from everything as we recover from the overstimulation and give ourselves "down time" to assimilate the new energies and ideas.

MERCURY went direct early today (6:20am PDT or 1:20pm GMT on Sunday, May 22). Since the Messenger Planet went retrograde in Taurus on April 28, it has been encouraging us to reconnect with what has the most value to us. Now that it is again moving forward, we should be able to build on the internal foundation we've established, and to create more forms in the outside world that reflect those core values.

Mars continues its retrograde phase this week, backtracking through Sagittarius and then re-entering Scorpio this Friday. When Mars is retrograde, we are called to reassess our desires and how we take action. While the Red Planet is moving backward through Scorpio (until June 29), we'll be getting in touch with our deeper motivations and learning how to align our actions with our true life passions.

REGISTRATION NOW OPEN! Are you curious about what the last six months of 2016 have in store for us? My upcoming teleclass, called "Bridging Realities," will explain what's going on astrologically for the last half of the year. This class is designed to help you understand and navigate these complex and challenging times.
