WE LINGER

in the energies of last night's Full Moon as we begin the new week -- especially on Monday, when Mars makes its exact square to the dwarf planet Eris. This confrontational aspect may bring to a boil some events that have been brewing, given how closely Mars was involved in the lunation.

Currently in Cancer, Mars responds to a challenge by either fighting or fleeing, and can quickly become defensive when its feelings are hurt. Eris is somewhat of an unknown quantity, having only been discovered in 2005. It takes many years after a planetary body is found and named for astrologers to watch its influence and more fully understand its impact.

But, given that Eris is named for the goddess of discord, we can assume that it's not going to be all peace and calm as we begin the week. Our best response is likely to be to use that "step-to-the-side" skill that Cancer the Crab is known for. When we move out of the line of fire, we can gain more objectivity and see more clearly what our options are. Then we can re-enter the scene with greater calm and strength.

MERCURY, ruler of communications and short journeys, is having another roller-coaster week. The Messenger Planet is in Leo, so ideally would be happily engaged in creative activities and spending most of the day playing. But on Monday, Saturn interrupts the fun and games with a call back to chores, a reminder that we're adults and have to fulfill our responsibilities.

Thursday is another slightly uncomfortable day, at least for those of us who like to have a handle on our reality. Two planets currently in Pisces (Chiron and Neptune) interact with Mercury, creating something of a fog around our ability to think clearly. We can look at this in a positive way, if we let go of needing to get things figured out and instead choose to have faith in the unfolding of events, even if we cannot see exactly how it will all resolve.

Mercury feels more optimistic on Friday, thanks to a helpful aspect with Jupiter. But the Sun and Saturn are in frictional aspect, so we'll have an underlying awareness that there's still more work to be done.

THE SUN squares Eris on Saturday, providing the incentive for us to take further action in regards to an area where we have been feeling overwhelmed. Sometimes we have to get angry before we have the courage to move beyond our fears and vulnerabilities.

The Last Quarter Moon is on Sunday at 12:25pm PDT (9:25pm GMT). The Moon will be closely aligned with Eris at that time, so we can anticipate that issues that came up this week will require our attention.

THE MOON will also be conjunct the fixed star Kurdah as it begins the last phase of its cycle next Sunday. This promises potential benefit, given what astrologer Roderick Kidston writes about the energies of that star:

"There's a lot of creative force with Kurdah, artistic talent which can express in many ways, including quite practical ones, but there is also something worldly and ambitious going on. The creativity of this star can be turned to sensible, practical ends ... When the creative fire of Kurdah is channelled intellectually, strong good work gets done. The challenge with this star is to keep a sense of proportion and focus. It is easy to get carried away, either with early promise which then fails to deliver, or with despair, by giving up too early."

It sounds like we can make some good progress here -- as long as we keep our wits about us, trust in the unfolding, and see the challenges as stair steps to be climbed as we focus on our ultimate destination.

IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK: This year, you reach deep within yourself to access the strength you need to deal with current issues. You find your way not by avoiding the challenges, but by making sure that you support and nurture yourself along the way -- and that you allow trusted loved ones to be there for you as well. It can be hard for Cancers to really let their guard down, as they tend to feel they need to be strong and carry burdens for everyone around them. At the same time, they easily take on the emotional stress of others, which increases the weight on their shoulders and hearts. But this year, you may discover that you do not need to take on everyone else's problems, that sometimes the most loving thing you can do for someone is to give them the space to find their own strength during difficult times. As you hold your boundaries, everyone benefits.

In peace,

Pam
